I wanted to get my macbook pro laser etched and the company wanted to know what the shell of the macbook pro is made of i told him aluiminum but he said theier are different kinds

I don't know if my answer is going to help you either, but here goes.

There are all kinds of images of etched MBP's on the net, you could contact one of the places that has already etched them and find out how they did it (ie: helpful settings to the company who has no clue)

Aluminum is pretty vague, many many different alloys exist, those the most commercially used are 6061-T6 and 7005
