Hi All,

do you know if there's coating or protective film that can be put on the glass glossy screens to make them matt? I'm just buying a 17" i7 MBP, but I prefer the look of the glossy screen (don't like the alu bezel on the matt screens)... but would prefer rather less gloss!

cheers, Rob

I have a similar question.

For those who have the anti-glare screen option on their Macbook pro, what would the screen look like if you put a screen protector with anti-glare coating? My thinking is since the anti-glare screen is plastic instead of glass, it is subject to scratches.

Thanks

You don't need a screen protector unless you plan to clean the screen with your car keys.

anti glare screen

I've had anti glare screens on my laptops since its inception. You just have to be careful with it. I don't let anyone poke it with their fingers. The cleaning is no problem at all. It's not as hardy as the glass screen, but look at the benefits! I've never had a problem with mine.

I've had a matte / anti-glare screen on my MBP for 3 years. No problems, no real-world advantage to be found in glossy in terms of protection. Same for everyone else I know, most of whom have matte screens. Its simply a non-issue.

ar coating is in fact doing much as the op described on many macbook retinas. Including mine. Sucks.

Macbook Pro Screen peel

For 2nd time since purchase (16 months ago) of my mbp with retina display, I have sections of the screen that are "peeling" away. 1st time the Genius thought it was contamination and wiped with his cleaner / cloth and area enlarged peeling further with obvious flaw exposed. They replaced that display and when returned to me I asked if they adjusted closure proximity of "screen to keys" ... since the keys left very slight impression on display that is evident upon opening with sun at my back. (oil from fingers) They said they couldn't adjust. I feared this "peel" could re-occur and said so. I take when it opened meticulous care of my mbp with padded leather carrying case and use in office environment (it could pass for brand new). Nothing has scratched the screen yet random sections just start to "peel". Has anybody else had this problem??? I clean with Flents "lens wipe" and microfiber lens cloth. See pictures of latest sudden "peel" of what seems to be a coating on glass. Retina display is beautiful, that's why I purchased... but screen peel is unacceptable.

So does anyone worry about the anti-glare coating on a macbook pro screen

I mean does anyone really know what it is?

Like I was saying in another thread, if the mbp anti glare coated screen is anything like glasses then that coating is not permanent
I've been told by people at pearle vision and lenscrafters that the coating after just some normal wear by cleaning it even with a soft cotton which they recommend and the recommended spray, the coating will flake off from 6months to a years time depending.

This could be a huge problem as I've had glasses which look completely scratched up because the coating is coming off...eventually if this problem will be on the mbp screen then its gonna look like someone sanded down parts of your screen
