Just curious what you all do for backups. I only store documents on OneDrive and Google Drive, and all of my photos are sync'd to Adobe's Creative Cloud, but none of that is a true backup. I have tried doing a network Time Machine disk, but keep running into corrupted backup messages. My reading shows this is a common problem that started with Sierra and has not been resolved. A local Time Machine backup would work, but is a real pain due to having to eject the disk every time I unplug the machine.

So, what do all of you do? Ideally the solution would be automatic with minimal interaction from me. Has anyone gotten networked Time Machine working reliably?

I use Backblaze cloud backup for $5/month. It relies on the internet so you need fast internet, and not as convenient as Time Machine for restoring files. I have local time machine backups too, but in my recent migration Time Machine was missing random folders, a major issue for me. In another instance, Time Machine restore just ‘failed’. If I had relied on Time Machine alone, I would have lost important data.

I keep some docs in the cloud, but the vast majority of stuff is stored locally.

I have 256GB so also use NAS. The NAS works as a store for documents, and everything else; and a Time Machine destination. I store stuff locally that I’m actively using. Stuff I need occasional access to on the NAS. The NAS protects the MBPro against failure through TM, and it has a mirrored drive protection itself against a HDD failure.

I also use another external drive for TM and to manually copy data from the NAS. I tend to keep this with me most places.

I then have another drive that copies the NAS and TM sparse image.

It’s seems complex but it’s not. If I do nothing, I’m still continuously backing up over the network to TM on the NAS. I set reminder for the manual copies.
