My battery seems to be shot. I have Macbook Pro 2.53 that I picked up in June of 2009. It's sitting at 138 load cycles and is only at 40 % capacity now. 2304 mAh out of 4600 mAh originally. It basically will get down to 20 % and the computer shuts off. I can press the indicator on the side of the macbook, and it still shows about 3 green dots. I do not have Apple Care.

My question is, is there any upgrade available, like some sort of extended life battery? A battery from the newer models perhaps?

You can pay $129 (13", 15") or $179 (17") to have your battery replaced by Apple. You might even be able to swing a free replacement, as the built-in batteries are supposed to last 3 years or 1000 cycles.

Sorry, I should have specified, this is the unibody that does NOT have the built in battery.
