ah, sucks that 18 months is about the threshold for the life of this battery for so many people.
even if I had paid the $250 for applecare, that only lasts 3 years and if I have to replace my battery 2 times in that time period, its only marginally worth it (by about 10 bucks) and technically, i've heard applecare doesn't even cover batteries
