Hi

I have a macbook pro and I just installed some software that let's u edit nfts drive on el capitan. It told me to reboot and now I boot to a screen with a line through it. I have reset the smc, pram, and tried to boot to safe mode with no luck. I tried single user mode and it says Error Loading kernel cache (0x1b) I do cmd + shift + v and get error, prelinked kernel corrupted with a big error message. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

You should revert your system software from your backup before installing the new software. I suspect the new software is not compatible with El Capitan.

The forbidden sign on boot means that the computer cannot find a bootable OS.

Two possibilities: either your hard drive kick the bucket right there and then (possible, but since you never told us what year and size MBP you have, I'm just guessing), or whatever it is you installed corrupted your OS, making it impossible to boot.

Reinstall OS X and restore from a backup (hope you have one, if you don't, well give yourself a good sharp whack to the back of the head for me). If you are unable to reinstall OS X, that'd point to a hard drive failure.

I thought the folder with question mark was no bootable OS? I know prohibited sign (circle with diagonal line) can occur when kexts have been modified (which I would think SIP would prevent). I know there were some software issues with NTFS support software and El Capitan.

Correct, I had a brainfart there.

The rest of the post still stands though.
