It seems my capslock key is permanently stuck on, even tho the light is not on. Therefore I cannot log on, as my password and backup password won't work.

Previously, I had answered an email from my work account, which I thought was from a student, and the problem seems to have started there, as my reply was in all caps, and I couldn't turn it off, even tho the little green light went on or off. When I did a restart, I got a 'safe' log in screen, but of course my passwords won't work.

I tried restarting by holding down the command key, and that worked once, but won't work again.

Any ideas?

If you are at a login window, then press the caps lock key multiple times, you should see the caps lock icon appear (and disappear) in the password window.
If you see that icon on & off, then the caps lock is not the issue. Perhaps your keyboard is bad, or you are trying the wrong password (caps/case has to be correct when typing passwords.)

dang

it was the shift key! it was stuck. so simple.

thanks all.....
