Sorry this isn't covered; I wish Apple offered accidental protection; come to think of it, AppleCare is really expensive. I have a Thinkpad with 4-year on-site and accidental and it only cost $450. AppleCare is $350 and it's for 3 years and is just a basic warranty!

It may not apply in this case, but many people forget that homeowners/renters insurance does cover some accidents that happen to computers/laptops. It's definitely worth checking your policy first.

I just was wondering- macbook pro is made from aluminum, so can bodyshop fix it? They fix cars, so why not macbook pro?;):D

Dent Prevention

I put a Speck clear case on mt MacBook Pro, and then I accidentally dropped it off of the famed CalTech steps, and the case protected the laptop 100%, as there were no dents, scratches, or other damage. I then decided to got and 'test' it some more with a dummy computer inside the case and the dummy did not sustain any scratches even though I let it slip down the escalator. I decided to buy another case after that, and I gave the old 'test' case to my friend and put the new one on mine. Definetely buy the speck line of case products!
And the bodyshop idea wouldn't work, but I put some of that metal-softening paste on my friend's PowerBook, and the denht went away after the thing had been smoothed out a few times. However, since the Power Book is made of Titanium and the MBPis made of a softer aluminum, the paste might be a little too strong for the material. Might as well take your chamces, and if it gets screwed up, then cut out the piece of squishy metal and put some aluminum foil over it, and pretend that it was never there...

LoL Every week someone comes on here and asks if their smashed in MBP is covered under warranty. I'd bet Apple would go into the negatives if they offered accidental insurance.

Anywho, I have insurance through state farm . They've got me down for about 2500, soon to be 3000 for the total cost of my macbook pro plus intel ssd. costs about 64 dollars a year. I considered forgoing applecare but I realized they go hand in hand. Statefarm will cover everything but wear and tear, wheras Apple will only cover wear and tear.

Thanks for pointing that company out. I will definitely take a look at them. It's such a great price for what they offer. Appreciate it! - Mason

+1 ^^^ Not bad for $117 per year for 3-years. Very impressive...

I agree. Either lower the cost or raise the coverage.

Although I can't see how Apple would do accidental protection. Think of how many people would magically have an accident on their last day of protection.

I personally think that dents and wear should be covered and protection should extend to 4 years.

Four years would be a logistical nightmare. Three years looks like their average product lifetime independant of revisions and whatnot. If that were the case people would still be getting powerbook replacements instead of new unibodies.

My friend was carrying my Macbook Pro 17in In a orange Wilson bag (the one advertised on the site) and the strap snapped and the left side of my laptop fell on the tile floor and got dented on the left corner and scrapped it a little bit. The dent is also on the charger plug, making it hard to plug in. The left side near the speakers also lifted up a little bit.

My Friend was wondering if this is covered by the Applecare Warranty, and if not, how much this would run me for to fix it.

Thanks for any help

Oh Jesus! That's soo unfortunate. I'm sorry. :(

I hope nothing like ever happens when I'm out shooting. I'd probably die from a heart attack or something!! I can't even beginning to estimate the value of equipment in my camera bag... :(

AppleCare only covers manufacturers defects, poor workmanship etc. It isn't an insurance and therefore doesn't copy anything accidents the user has.

well speaking from experience

I dropped my Unibody 2.8ghz laptop onto stone tiles on the first of january :)
I also know a country manager at apple and asked him and he said no coverage whatsoever, as a matter of fact apple is tightening the screening process for the "defects" as well.
BUT, i found this site : http://www.welovemacs.com/apmapro152ci25.html
(in my unibody case) and the replacement parts for my damaged case would be 400 USD. considering its a 3000 USD laptop and it was my fault, this might be acceptable still.. Your laptop is now ou of warranty no matter how you twist it.
