Macbook Pro Display Not Working

Whenever my friend reboots his computer, there is usually no display (9/10 times). It does power on though, because the caps lock key lights up when pressed. The times it does work, a small bar is shown under the apple logo, then it powers off. any suggestions on how to fix this issue? (it's kinda like a black screen of death issue or something)

Sounds like a logic board failure. Needs to be replaced.

What do you mean "cutting corners"?

Tell your friend to run the Apple Hardware Test found on the Applications Install DVD.

he said he has been in the store about 5 times. not sure exactly what they did, but i'm sure they tested a lot of stuff. how can he run that program if it won't even log in?

Hold down "C" at startup with the disk in the drive and allow it to run.
