Hello, I commit the mistake to clean my 2009 macbook pro yesterday and since then it has been failing.

- Trackpad act sometimes as it was stuck: I took it out and cleaned it but it still happen.
- Keyboard doesn't work, all the letter doesn't work but numbers do work when I press on alt
- Exposé is running slow, not sur if that the right name but it is visible in the video.

So I did this:

1. I took the trackpad out, clean it in the borders and reinstall it but it still act as it was stuck on left click.
2. I tried with another battery as this one is showing "need repair" but nothing changes. Need repair was already there before this happen.
3. I reset SMC by removing the battery and clicking on power button for 5 seconds. As it is done on this 2009 MB.
4. Can't reset PRAM as keyboard doesn't work and it doesn't work with the external keyboard. at least it doesn't look like it does.

I am thinking that if it doesn't get better in a few days I will need a new trackpad and a new keyboard, I know how to replace those parts as I already did it on my 2008 mb years ago but I am worried about the slow expose works, is it possible that the motherboard is failing too? How can I be sure?

I did the cleaning by putting some alcohol on a cloth and rubbing it over the keyboard. I did not put alcohol directly on the keyboard, just in case.

Also I notice that when I turn it on the progress bar stops when it is in the middle and then it gets blurry before it keep going, like it was trying to load something and it give up so it is blurry.

I wrote this on an external keyboard. My mb is the 5,5 model from 2009, it has an 250SSD and 8GB in ram.

When I use photoshop there's a little square next to the cursor which make me think that there's a key that is failing like it was stuck.

Any clue on which key it may be?

That icon is caused by holding down the control key. I have a 2013 MacBook Air and used to follow those forums closely, but rarely use the MBA anymore and no longer follow them. But in those days there were quite a few threads where people did serious damage by cleaning their keyboards with alcohol just as you describe, unfortunately.

Make sure the batteries you used aren't swollen. If the battery is deformed in any way, it could affect the trackpad and if you have a deformed battery, dispose of it. It's not safe to use.

There are replacement keyboards you can get for a 2009 MBP, but be warned that replacing a keyboard on most laptops is not for the timid of heart:

Do you think I can fix the control or do I need a new keyboard?

Thanks, battery needs repair but is not swollen. Do you think I can fix just the control key?

If you think the control key is the only key that's messed up, you could try remapping the key. Keyboard preferences has some vary basic remaps you can use to swap the control key with caps lock. Give that a try. You might be able to use your keyboard again.

Is the key jammed? Does it appear to be in a depressed state?

The CONTROL key looks okay, it does not look depressed.

the weird thing is that last sunday it worked normally, I thought the problem was solved but on monday it was failing again.

Yes, I did. I watched a diy video on youtube.

How long did it take? From the walkthroughs I saw, it looked like a pretty gruesome task.

I've never replaced a MBP keyboard before. I've done it on a Sony Vaio and I swear there wasn't a part of the laptop I didn't have to disassemble just to get to the keyboard.

It took like 20 minutes but I had to do it 3 times because I forgot a part outside the first time, misplaced a part the second time and so on. The keyboard is held by 51 tiny screws and 2 of them were impossible two unscrew so I had to break those. You must take everything apart since the keyboard is underneath the motherboard.
