Perhaps their son should teach them about the meaning of the phrase 'false economy'. 😉

Personally, I wouldn't want a machine with two drives in what I presume is an inflexible RAID configuration; twice the risk of complete data failure. I've had my fingers burnt already.

A single HD MacBook Pro can be configured with 200GB. Granted, it's 4200RPM vs 5400RPM, but for the extra heft of a second HD, gaining 40GB and 1200RPM doesn't sound like much bang for the buck.

Maybe it's just cheaper. I wonder if two 5400RPM 120GB drives are a lot less expensive than a single 200GB 4200RPM? 😕 😀

Another question: does the dual HDD allow for a RAID config???

That would make for a pretty big performance gain.

DV9000t was listed in the Desktop replacement/gaming category, and only comes in fourth in that class.

Thank you. People here keep talking about 'Anti-Apple Bias' at CNet even though they rate almost all of Apple's hardware very favorably. It drives me crazy.

My parents...heh... that'll be difficult. They're like that about everything. 🙄 They even almost recognize the insanity. Like they buy a very expensive house and then spend almost nothing on furniture. It's just the way they are, though. They've been like that for so long.

As for the two drives...Awww... *kisses poor fingers* I do know what you mean. It seems less than ideal.

I wonder if Apple will come up with a mod to get two hard drives in the iMac, especially, for Leopard.

Last 357 magnum I bought used only cost me $300. I nice new one is between $500 and $1000. I don't know where you get your stuff. 🙄

That's why he said you'd have $1500 left after buying the gun and ammo. 🙄

Anyway, I'm also not sure I buy the dual-HD as a bonus in a laptop. I expect my portable systems to be portable first, powerful second. The extra weight and drain of a 2nd drive isn't a definite plus for me.

Of course, as soon as the MBPs get a 2nd drive, I'll consider it manna from heaven, fanboi that I am. 😉

Not everyone buys a MBP to run windows friend. I dont care if the HP was priced at 1000 and the MBP was 3500 i would still buy the MBP. So with that i have just one thing to say to you, OSX. 😎

Not only that but Windows XP? Who the hell in their right mind, with a choice, would want to go back to Windows XP after using OSX? If your reading this and you dont agree, slap yourself. Windows is the most god aweful thing that ever came off of Microsofts manufacturing line. Its a disease for computer hardware. OSX is the cure.
 
The specs of the macbook pro are almost the same as this and the MBP has some more things standard then this like the 120 gig HD, and the wireless N cards and its thinner... im not much of a fanboy but this is FAR from a beat down
 
Anyway I thought the MBP was worse than a laptop of half the price ($1500) 🙄. Only $500 less isn't much, and it doesn't cover Bluetooth, magsafe, Firewire (800 too), webcam, wide touchpad, backlit keyboard, gigabit ethernet and OS X, none of which the HP will have.

Its got all that except magsafe, backlit keyboard, wider touchpad & OS X. CNet specs listed are not accurate. See HP's site.
Ofcourse the deal breaker here is Mac OS X and all the wonderful apps that run on it.

vs the macbook pro's (17 in)
6.8 pounds, 15.4 x 10.4 inches, 1 inch thick

We are talking portable computers here...

Not to mention the macbook pro has the ability to run Mac OS. The true strength of a computer is the operating system.
 
I like the black lid, it looks really nice. If I was in charge of HP I would: Change the OS to XP Media Center, Scrap the headphone jacks at the front, scrap the full keyboard*, center the touch pad, scrap dual harddrives and get a new panel for the screen.

*Full keyboards on a laptop are horrid to type on, my brother has one on his toshiba.
 
I have owned three HP notebooks in 3 years and all I can say i that they ALL have crashed! Don't get me wrong HP makes O.K. notebooks however, nothing like the MBP2. After my third notebook crased I decided that I had enought and made the change, let me tell you that I do not regret it. This MBP 2 is the best piece of machine that I have ever owned. I love it!

Umm...Windows XP is NOT that bad. I run both a MacBook Pro and a custom-built desktop with Windows XP. Both OS have their benefits, and also their negatives.
Concerning with the "portable desktop" that HP is trying to sell...well, it's not that light to carry around all the time. It might appeal to the power hungry and gamers, but overall as a mainstream portable laptop, I don't think it is going to fly ONE bit. Has anyone tried lugging around almost eight pounds on their back all over a college campus? Two pounds less does make a difference.
 
I used to like Windows notebook before I made a shift toward Mac about 5 years ago. My HP Pavilion ZT1180 is still usable; but, I don't (because I only use Mac at home now).
Maybe my taste in the design of the notebook has changed from earlier years. I used to like those blue lighting scheme; but, after using PB and MBP since then, I don't like those tacky features.
If you look at the "total" package of MBP (or PB), it is difficult to find the competition in the notebook market.
 
wow what a great thread. I love how the majority of mac users are able to provide supporting evidence for their opinions while apple haters tend to just...hate on apple. If you ever read the comments on non mac rumors threads such as this one about a zune parody, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ao8Lr2U7mX8 it becomes very apparent.
