Many thanks. Well thats the first thing. I just opened up the unit and cleaned it - there was not a lot of tumble-weed type dust bunnies like you would find in an old PC... but there was certainly a full layer of fine dust on the blades. So used q-tips with alcohol. Not too noisy at all around 4000.

And, I have iStat as well as Fan Control running so getting better insight to whats happening. Not to mention that you cleared up why Fan Control was reporting 1 fan...

As for the videos, perhaps. I also have a number of external drives but I now how them all going through USB hubs with their own power, hopefully lessening the burden of the MacBook Pro power supply.

13" Pro only has 1 fan. The 15" and above has 2 fans, 1 for the CPU and 1 for the GPU.

If your fan roars in the 13", you may want to open it up to clean off dust and debris. If there is no dusts but the fan still roars, chances are you are watching too many video clips on Youtube.
