Hello, I am new here.

I was wondering....can a Macbook Pro be hooked up to a Mac 4k / 5k display ?

(I would prefer that option rather than buying an high spec iMac as it gives me freedom of movement but still with a big high res display when I want it.)

If so does it have to be specifically a Mac 4k / 5k display for it to work ?

Thanks

There are no apple 4K/ 5K displays.

Yes they will work but only the latest high end 15 inch macbook pro and the retina imac (and of course the nMP) support 5K displays and even then only using 2 cables using up both thunderbolt ports.
