Hi guys,

I am thinking of getting a replacement for my dying Macbook Pro 2009. Does anyone have an idea how does the new Macbook Pro i9 Vega 20 compares to the older iMac 27 i7 4.2GHz Radeon 580 performance wise, please? I am guessing the iMac is still going to be faster because of the desktop-grade CPU and the faster clock speed, but I have no idea how much faster that would be. Also, I have very little idea on the GPU comparison between these two. My main needs are software development in IntelliJ, photo editing in Lightroom and video editing in Final Cut.

Thanks a lot!

Last I looked, the iMac was slower in the cpu area, but the GPU was much faster than the MacBook Pro Vega 20.

You will have to weigh out if you need portability over a desktop with a bit more power. I personally wanted portability and desktop in one, and not have two separate machines. My MBP in my signature is more than powerful enough to meet those demands.
