So, I just bought a MacBook Pro. 2.6ghz 2gb (just upgraded to 4gbs) 15" screen.
I bought a new Western Digital 320gb Scorpio Blue.
I installed the hard drive myself and turned it on.
I booted from the Macbook Pro install discs.

I went up into Disk Utility to format the drive but it does not appear in the left pane.

Now, I've gone back three times already, taken it apart to make sure everything was connected correctly. Which it was. This last time I also loaded into a USB enclosure and connected it to my PC. It recognized it as a New Hardware and it was also in the "System Management" for the "Disk Manager"

When I go up into "System Profiler" it recognizes it as a Serial-ATA drive.
All the correct information is there. So I know the drive works.

Does anyone know why Disk Utility is not seeing the newly installed hard drive?
How I can get the drive formatted so the install go recognize this new drive.

PS. I bought the very same drive for my sisters white Macbook and that install went perfectly. Found it right away.

Right side of wrong
hmm. you could put the hard drive in an enclosure and plug it up to your mac with a usb or firewire cable, and then boot from the mac disk. and see if it comes up that way
