I dont think the last image worked. Heres the link to the new one:

I suppose i could always throw away my MBP and get the TRS-80 out of the closet...

Well apparently radio shack makes better computers than apple

----------

So if i understand the partitioning suggestion right, i should make a second partition of my drive that is 30% the total capacity of my drive and put the OS on that? And if that doesn't work then what? Replace my HDD?

Lucky I'm not an adult then.

Also if your not going to help then don't bother posting comments.

Like you posted even wanting help. So far just pessimistic failures and rants.
Most likely pebkac.
Some things to square away. Core 2 duo is slow. Flash on OS X sucks 1000% worse than on Win.
Win works with HW vendors much closer than Apples 'walled garden'. Run Windows on your Macbook and it will be an exact replica of performance as the sum of it's parts. Meaning it will be a Sony or Dell or HP whatever laptop with a Core 2 Duo processor, etc... Stop the pain you are inflicting and go back to MS. You'll be happy. And for goodness sake posting uninformed rubbish as "Radio Shack makes better computers than Apple" shows some real break from reality as they are consistently rated as #1 from tons of publications. They are all over the MS campus as well. Albeit running Win. The HW and design is great. Just go back to your preference.

Right clearly because im annoyed at the SUDDEN lack of performance means I prefer MS. Its been a solid computer for most the time i've had it but lately its been slow and useless. Ive posted other topics about this and after exhasting all the usual ways of improving performance im asking for any alternative ways that maybe arent as well known. And yes maybe im a bit pessemistic but after spending hours and hours messing with hardware and software to try and get your computer to work well again and having no luck would you not get a bit fed up?

I would recommend trying a new hard drive. Perhaps take it to apple. I've had problems with an older macbook took it to apple and they installed a new larger hard drive for free. It solved all of my problems.

I dont have an apple store near me. And I really doubt they would give me a new 500 GB for free.

That's unfortunate. Luckily I had 3 within 30 minutes. Perhaps you could purchase a new hard drive or borrow one and see if it solves any of the problems.

Are you a MS fanboy trolling us?

just asking.

----------

Did you even read my last post? I'm NEVER buying another SSD. They are a bloody LIE.

im not sure which SSD you used but... uh. I refuse to use a machine WITHOUT an SSD.

SSD's are the single greatest thing you can do to your Mac.

And my Wife had that same exact model MacBook Pro and it ran completely fine. No issues at all. So its isolated to something on your particular machine.

Maybe its a bad hard drive thats about to fail?

Having an SSD wont do anything to improve CPU related tasks so its of little use to me. Can an SSD make Maya render faster? No. Can it make game physics engines work smoother? No. So what is the point of blowing 100$ on a SSD just so my MBP starts slightly faster?

Also criticising an apple product doesn't make me an MS fanboy or whatever it means I can actually see apples faults. Pretending that everything apple makes is perfect doesnt make them make better products.

MOD NOTE

We have spent some time cleaning this thread up a bit. Lets try to keep it on topic and answer the questions the OP raises.

I second the "maybe you damaged it when you threw it notion". I'm not sure if you pay for the things you own, or whether that makes a difference, but I've found that throwing complex electronic devices usually leads to less-than-stellar results.

My 2008 MacBook non-pro does everything you mentioned just fine. Way to screw up your own computer. Guess you'll just have to wait till your parents buy you a new one.

Um yeah I did do a clean install. I booted from the CD and erased the drive, including writing over everything with 0's.

Also I had an SSD in this thing, I returned it because it didn't do anything but make my computer boot faster and programs open faster. When it came to actual CPU heavy tasks it was still a slow piece of junk. No point spending 100$ on a glorified memory stick.

I'm not sure what your getting at about making my HDD have 3 partitions to make it faster. ??

And my HDD is 50% free plenty of free space to not be cluttered.

Not necessarily three partitions, 1:3 or 1:4 two partitions.
it doesn't matter whether it's 50% free or not, you're allowing your system to write on the slow part of your sluggish 5400rpm drive. That's not how you get peak performance out of a drive.
I'm telling this because of all the people that might be reading this drivel.

Also 94? You're not a kid also.

I can make multitrack projects on 0.13 per core better CPU and you can't watch youtube videos? Are you serious?

You bought a c2d when core i7 where starting to emerge. A c2d which has already been around for what, 3 years? How is that apple's fault?
Core2Duo has been around since 2006. Apple had 15"-ers with Core i7 at the time you bought your 4year old technology. Why did you buy it? Nobody is claiming apple has no faults. What I'm telling you is a big fault apples makes with its marketing. But that doesn't excuse you falling for it.

One of the main issues people had with 13" going "pro" is that it was way underpowered right from the beginning. And it still is. When you ask people/tell people about retina macs and you come to the 13"-er there's always a "meh" connected with the fact that it doesn't have a quadcore cpu.

Okay is this a forum or a roast?

1. Yes i seriously cant watch youtube videos
2. I may have worded it wrong but im not actually blaming apple for my MBP being slow, merely stating that whenever I ever say Im annoyed with my computer people seem to spend more time criticising me than helping.
3. Did it ever occur to anyone that maybe, just maybe all I could get was a Core 2 Duo machine and not a 15" with an i7? You know what I had before this? An iMac G3.

You got plenty of constructive advices but are deliberately ignoring them in order to poke blows at apple.
Even I gave you an obscure less-known advice (that's easily provable as well).

If I can run youtube normally on:
c2d 2.53
9400m 256mb
8gb ram
7200rpm disk

i think you can too.

edit: just checked with my lady:
she can run youtube normally on macbook:
2.0 c2d
4gb ram
9400m 256mb

Can you post a screen shot of Activity Monitor while you're watching a youtube video? Maybe the version of flash you're running is out of date. I recently updated mine and noticed that the CPU usage went down by a small but noticeable amount.

I'm betting on a failed/failing hard drive.

They often don't show up in diagnostic software but can really impact performance.

I have a macbook pro 13 with 8gb ram

do i need an ssd or should i keep the one that came with it?

You don't need one but if your workflow involves a lot of disk I/O then you'd probably benefit from one. Either that or you simply can afford it and don't mind either way.

Okay so I agree with those saying my HDD is dying. Makes sense since its as old as my MBP and I use it a ton.

I got a brand new 640 GB toshiba HDD (not sure if my MBP can "see" over 500 GB but whatever). Will do a partition for my OS and Apps.

I'll post results once I've gotten the new HDD in and all my stuff copied over to the new one.

I find it hilarious that you are comparing your ancient C2D to the newer gen CPUs. Of course its slower, its from 2008. The slowest current MacBook Air is more then twice as fast than your old machine
