MacBook Pro is stuttering since 15.3 update

still having problem with safari youtube to go full screen.. it just clicks and nothing happens unless I restart mac then it works for some time pa after day or two again same thing.. running macbook pro 14" m4 pro 24gb.. only extension is adblock.

It may be Apple AI hogging resources as it sets things up; I don’t know.

I've also been getting the stutters since 15.3 and it's driving me crazy.
It's my home machine for music production and editing (M1 Max MacBook Pro) and it gives me frequent stutters where the mouse freezes for a second. If I happen to type at the moment it stutters using my bluetooth keyboard, the text lags and catches up with me.

I've tried a number of things including disconnecting all but things, leaving only:

OWC Thunderbolt 3 dock
Bluetooth Apple Keyboard
Wired Apple Mouse
4K monitor connected with display port to the OWC dock

I have tried with the 4K monitor connected to the MBP HDMI and still got stutters.
I have also tried without the OWC dock and got stutters..


I was seeing high CPU usage of 'Fileprovierd' (occasional jumps for a second or so to 200%) so I also disabled iCloud to rule that out and have reinstalled MacOS over the top. I don't want to do a clean install as I have hundreds of plugins which I would have to reauthorise and it would be a big headache.

Currently experimenting with lockdown mode to see if I have a stutter.

Sometimes I won't get a stutter for quite a while, then suddenly it'll come back.
Other times it'll be incessant

Anyone with any more info on this or ides I could try?
 
updated my m4 max today, nothing to report... maybe just software updating in the background for you.

for what its worth, I have connected:

  • OWC thunderbolt3 dock (updated driver to the one released recently so it will run with full security now)
  • logitech MX anywhere 3 for Mac mouse
  • WD external drive for time machine
 
I tried disabling Apple Intelligence in Settings then deleting the largest files in System/Library/AssetsV2 and that didn't work. I was mainly getting the stuttering in Safari. I reset everything in Safari and that didn't work. I reinstalled Sequoia and that didn't work. Finally I tried disabling my 3 Safari Extensions and that worked. They are Capital One Shopping, Coupon Birds and PayPal Honey. Yesterday evening I installed the Sequoia 15.3.1 update and it put the large Intelligence files right back in there and turned it on by default. I have turned it off and deleted those large files again. Everything, especially Safari seems smooth as silk.
 
After looking this morning I see the large files I deleted have been restored. All except one. I guess I'll leave it alone since the system downloaded them and put them back and see if they go away after a week or so of having Intelligence turned off. Still running smooth though.

I'm running apple intelligence with zero issues. But yeah I do not have any of those browser extensions, and all of them sound dodgy to me. Honey is confirmed to be dodgy.

Same here. Just updated last night and started editing some video this morning. The computer now stutters and lags a bit in Final Cut Pro just from scrolling through the timeline. iOS 18 and Mac OS 15 have been disastrous for Apple from a stability standpoint. Really hoping that the next major updates are focused on stability and performance over checking boxes off the feature list.

EDIT: It appears that they did fix whatever it was that was causing me to have to force eject every external hard drive on previous Sequoia versions.

Since the latest update this week my MacBook Pro seems to be back to normal. 🙂

Just open the regular appstore and search for you current mac os in case of the most recent being "macOS Sequoia". Download it run it and click through. Just make sure when it asks for the disk to select you current mac os disk (just in case you have any external ssds connected). Then let it do it's thing. Worked for me.

Did you do a clean install? From scratch, where you had to re-download all of your software and everything?
 
I installed the 15.3.1 update and I'm still lagging. Like others here, it's primarily web or web app related – Chrome, Chrome web apps. For instance, trying to log in to Mac Rumors, there was a 7 or so second delay where everything in Chrome froze.

Screen sharing through Zoom is also laggy.

Also, not sure if it's relevant, but running bandwidth tests on Ookla keeps failing because of some unknown error.

Just makes it seem less CPU-related and more network related. At least from my dumb dumb perspective.

Whatever it is, I want my superfast Mac back!
 
I can confirm that at least in my case 15.3.1 fixed the issue. I don't know what exactly broke with the 15.3 update but 15.3.1 definitely fixed it for me.

hi! I'm adding to the topic, yesterday I updated my MacBook Pro m4, I add bought two months ago, with the latest available update Sequoia 15.3.1, I did it only because it said it would fix security issues (usually I wait months). From the start I had huge problems: the computer would restart by itself every 5 minutes without then reporting that it had restarted due to problems. I called support three times, the first time we ran a diagnostic that gave no problems. I used the MacBook for a while and then it restarted by itself again. I called support again and still nothing, no problems were found, in this call we created another account. I still use the computer and it restarts again, I called for the third time: long story short we tried to run the diagnostics again but in the meantime it restarted and then it turned off, dead, it no longer charges. The power cord light no longer comes on. Tomorrow I'm going to an Apple center and we'll see. 🙁
 
I'm experiencing the same random freezing and restarting after upgrading from 15.3.2 to 15.4 on my MBA M1.
