So my option button, command button and control button are all stuck. but not physically. I took it to apple store and they said it would be 180 to replace the whole keyboard. I dont have that much money to spend on a new keyboard so I was wondering if there was another alternative. I was thinking of purchasing the keys from ebay and replacing it my self.

If they keys are physically fine but not registering then replacing a single key isn't going to help you.

Replacing the keyboard is a big deal since you basically have to remove everything from the computer. It will vary a bit depending on which year and size you have but here is an example of how to get to the keyboard:

ohokay so i have to remove the whole keyboard. should i buy the replacment keyboard and try to install it on my own? what would you recommend

Same here...

I need to replace my keyboard as well. I've just bought a new keyboard unit including backlight from eBay for around US$40.

To get to the keyboard is a lot of effort, but should be doable if you have the confidence and some DIY experience in electronics. Just take your time and make sure you don't loose any screws. Use an egg carton to keep the screws for each step organized.

Now.... the BIIIIIIG question is:
Is the keyboard SCREWED into place, or is it RIVETED? I've heard that both could be possible..

In my case we're talking about a 15" late 2011 MBP... Does anybody know if this is riveted or not?
