I tried the "Roost" stand, saw it on this thread last year, actually really love it. They just upgraded it, now can change how tall it is, the old one towered. I'm giving the new one a shot, will report back, price is lower

I concur with others: mStand is the best alternative. It's hugely sturdy, which is a real plus when trusting the stand to support an insanely expensive laptop.

I actually travel with my mStand and Magic Keyboard and Trackpad; they go in my suitcase or in the trunk of my car on almost every trip I take.

I have tried most of the 12 South iterations and come back to the mStand each time. The Roost stand looks really nice, but also spindly.

If you want something that's cheap and very sturdy, you can't beat the Actto Laptop Stand

It's only $17!

I also have the first generation TwelveSouth BookArc. My 2016 MBP swims in it, but it still does the job. If I was paranoid or clumsy, it wouldn't be a good idea to still be using that older Book Arc on a current MBP, but it's secure enough for me.

I use my MBP in clamshell mode when it's on my desk, so I use the Twelve South BookArc - if you want the MBP to be used as an auxiliary monitor it's obviously not the stand for you.
