Hi all, i recently replaced the display on my macbook pro 2020 A2338. (Apple would not do it under warranty). It worked perfectly for two weeks, then the display went black and fan is on full blast anytime its powered on.
Any ideas what would cause this?
Thanks for looking

I can think of a couple of things to try.

First, hold the power button down for at least 10 seconds. This is supposed to force a reset of the system. If that doesn't work, you may need to get it serviced again. I'd take it back to whomever did the repair and have them check it over.

The other thing to check, and this is unlikely because it sounds like your system isn't booting because the fan is coming on at full speed, is to use a bright flashlight on the screen to see if there is any image there. Sometimes, the backlight setting gets turned down all the way for unknown reasons. The keyboard keys should adjust it, but may not. In this case you would need to attach an external display and adjust it that way.

An external display is another option to determine if the system is booting or not.

Good luck!

Is this an Apple-branded display or is it an after market?

Curious if you did the display replacement with Apple or a third-party.

Also if the display wasn't working and you're past warranty, I would have done it with Apple so that if there was an issue with the display that Apple may acknowledge - you can easily claim the repair back.

Thanks Leon and Java, it was an Apple branded display which I bought from a company on eBay. Its working perfectly now. I replaced the part myself, I was just unsure what was causing the fan to go nuts. All good, thanks for the replies!

So what ended up being the gremlin?

That's still a mystery, I stripped the new part off, and put it all back together again. Still same issue.
Tried a reset again the following morning and it magically worked. Im guessing just a loose connection somewhere...
Glad its functioning again though, and cheers everyone for looking.
