Hi all - Just got my MBP M1 Max 16”.

The webcam in every video app is flickering ( seems like some sort of frame rate issue).

This is a big issue as like a lot of us I primarily use for Google Meet, Zoom, Teams and FaceTime.

Surely there is setting / software fix for this.

Anyone else experiencing and have a fix please!

Thanks

Same on my 14 - I'd hope it's the 50/60hz issue (In the UK and had it with my M1 Air I think but was fixed with a software update shortly after release) and fixed soon.

Currently having meetings with the lights off :)

Hoping for a fix ( UK here) especially after spending more than £3k!!

I do not have this issue on my unit. 16" M1 Max. I'm also in the UK and it's connected to an AC outlet right now.

Thanks - out of interest what lights do you have where you use your MBP. There seem to be different levels of flickering when in different lighting conditions.

@coot - Do you have led or halogen bulbs where you are experiencing the issue?

LED Hue Colour + White Ambiance lights.

A single LED ceiling light.

Works fine on MBA M1 side by side.
I think your should contact Apple. I also thinking about a new MBP and in Germany, we also uses 50hz. But LEDs should not flicker with 50 Hz.

I'm *sure* the MBA did the same (as had to buy a cheap webcam from Amazon) and a search shows a few threads around the web.
It magically fixed itself possibly do to an update at some point after launch as the other posts mention that.

Mine isn't *as* bad as your posted video though, but still very noticeable.

Thanks for coming back to me. Hopefully a software fix soon! There is apparently a temp method using a program called OBS and reducing the frame rate down to 25 from 30. Did you ever try that?

No, never tried the OBS workaround, seemed a little overkill - the quick fix was to turn the lights off :)
Have enough light reflected back onto me from my main display.

Hope they can resolve soon - So frustrating given the product is 1 day old!

I don't have the problem. 16" Max UK here too.

Thanks to this thread for making me turn on the webcam to look at my hairy unshaven mug. Going to clean shave now.

Redditors have discovered it is because some people use old lights that are out of sync with the camera.

I use modern Philips Hue lighting and have no problem.

My house is full of "old" lights, because it flickers everywhere. But why my MacBook Air 2020 M1 does not flicker with these same old lights? Do we need to change all the light bulbs or maybe it would be better Apple patches the issue? (all my light bulbs are two years olds, because that's when I entered my new house. And I have light bulbs from IKEA, OSRAM, Chinese with funny names, etc)

The camera's frame rate is software controlled so there could be a fix coming.

People should change all their lights to LED anyway.
