I'm thinking of purchasing a 13" MacBook Pro M1 laptop. I want to use it to run Pro Tools. The latest version of Pro Tools is only compatible with OS X Catalina . Can I install OS X Catalina onto a MacBook Pro M1?

Thanks

No it will not support any macOS older than Big Sur. Catalina will not have the drivers to support the new Mac hardware.

Thanks for the quick response. In point of fact I hate Pro Tools. Always a problem with upgrades and hardware compatibility. Thanks again

I don't use Pro Tools, but I think the governing argument for PT users should be:

DO NOT BUY NEW HARDWARE unless you KNOW that the version of Pro Tools that you have will run on it.

Use the hardware you have now, and be happy, until you have an updated version of PT that is known to run on newer hardware.
