Hi everyone,
I recently bought a MacBook Pro M4 14-inch and after ~1.5 months of use I started noticing a repeating creaking/popping noise coming from the hinge area.
Here’s what I’m experiencing:
• When I open the MacBook, I hear a small creak/pop sound every time.
• If the display is left open for about 4–5 minutes and I try to adjust the lid, there’s a noticeable click from the left hinge (always).
• Every time I close the lid, there’s usually a loud pop from the right hinge.
• And when I lower the lid nearly all the way and start lifting it up again, I hear another distinct pop from the right hinge.
These sounds are very consistent and have started to really annoy me. The MacBook was otherwise perfect at first.
I’ve already had the keyboard serviced due to a couple of keys making double clicking sounds, which was handled by a service center.
On top of that, I had a previous MacBook of the exact same model, which I had to return after going through weeks of frustration. It had very similar issues, and only after several attempts and visits to the service center, I finally got a refund.
I really don’t want to go through this whole cycle again — but at this point, I don’t see many other options.
I’m wondering:
• Has anyone experienced the same issue with the hinge/shell making noises after a short time?
• Could this be related to the internal cable tension (like the lid angle sensor flex)?
• Could it just “settle” over time, or is it a defect?
• Would this qualify for warranty service, or is it considered cosmetic?
Here’s a video of the issue:

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks 🙏
