Does anybody what the MacBook Pro m4 pro base model benchmarks are yet? The 12 core one?

I’ve been curious myself but single core scores should be aligned with the other Mac’s; somewhere around 3800. I’m guessing Geekbench multi-core scores will land somewhere between 18,000 and 18,500

Has anyone purchased the base M4? I’m considering it I don’t do too much heavy lifting, but a bit :)
Only buy it if you care about screen and audio.

If you only need m4, air next spring will be a better choice for portability reasons. Mbp14 is a brick.

‘Brick’ is surely overstating it… it’s a little thicker but a weight difference of 300g, with an additional inch of screen size.

There's difference, but it' worth it. Many of use have tried the various models. The new version is great.

Anyways, wait til spring?

if you don’t need the screen and sound, air is a better and cheaper package. Just need to wait for m4 update.

I have air and mbp14, but the latter doesn’t invoke any desire to move it around. If I never had a reference point by immediately having air at the same time, it might have gone unnoticed. But 350 grams is a weight of a new ipad mini 7, so air + ipad = 1 mbp14

The screen on the Pros is overrated. I've compared it side by side with my Air and there's no difference. Plus the Pros are way too heavy. Expect back pain.

It overrated rather quickly I guess. First there's an embargo up until, what 4 days ago? and now it's already overrated.

Also, owners make sure you bend your knees when lifting it. Let your legs do the work!

Well I use a 16" Pro at work and I honestly can't tell a difference between that and my Air's screen. Even the 600 nits vs 500 nits is not noticable. Mini LED also draws more power.

The Airs a very nice. The new MBP (what we are talking about in the thread), is perhaps improved a little. I have a new 14" nano, and just sold my 13" M3 Air, and the difference in screens is striking. But it's not a big deal, both are good, and many will not notice or care, and after a little you adjust and there's no difference.

There's a huge difference between the Air and Pro displays, especially when doing any work where color accuracy is paramount. And you weight comment is laughable. I've been commuting and traveling with a 14" MBP for two years and I barely notice it when in my laptop backpack. I had a "thin" MSI gaming laptop that weighed around 33% more than the MBP and even that didn't cause back pain.

Lots of people online agree that there is no difference between the Air and Pro screens. I've even put them side by side and they both look the exact same. Why pay more for nothing?

The Pro weighs 0.6lbs heavier than the Air, it's night and day heavier than the Air. The Air is in a completely different league for portability that the Pro can't match. 3.5lb laptop is not what I'd consider super portable.

Just wondering why you sold your M3 Air and didn't keep it?

You’re welcome to your opinion, but I use my Mac to edit photos, and the very first thing I do is set white balance, then the white and black levels and then the color saturations.… and the MacBook Air screen is not nearly as good for me. At least, this is the case with the M1 MPB versus the M1 and M2 MBA’s I’ve used. The MBP had the only screen I’d want to use for photo editing.

Even so, I do most of my work with an external monitor, so if you do no editing on the road, then the screen quality doesn’t matter so much.
