Macbook Pro Mail App says Login Failed

Every time I open the Macbook Pro Mail app, it says "Login Failed" in the right hand upper corner, and I do not understand this....
I do not actually use this for my Email, but it is confusing to me as I did not see a login screen anywhere.
PLEASE explain and Thanks in advance!!

do you have "reopen windows when logging back in" selected in the restart window? QUIT the app, restart. or check your login items (in system preferences>Users & Groups); if Mail is there, click on it, hit the - (minus) button...
