Same Issue No Fix in Sight

I have the same issue. I have a Mid 2012 13" i7 2.9Ghz running 10.8.2 with 8Gb from Apple. The computer runs rock solid with the original 8Gb. I ordered Mushkin ram matching the specs of Apple's - 3.5V 1600 - but it was not specified as Apple ram. I tried that out and got the screen glitch crash issue. I ran the extended Apple hardware test on the ram and it passed, no issues with the memory were detected. The system usually crashed in this way within an hour of use.

Today I received "Apple" specific ram, also Mushkin from Newegg with the same basic stats - 3.5v 1600 - but slightly different timings. I installed this ram and rebooted. I had the same video glitch within 5 minutes of use. I have will send this RAM back tomorrow.

Drive configuration has no effect on this issue. When I had the first set of 16Gb of RAM I was using the default 750Gb Apple Drive. I am now using a Samsung 840 256Gb with a Seagate 1Tb in Fusion Drive mode. The crash occurs the same way. I am convinced it's not the drives.

I called Apple to talk with someone about support on this issue today. They did the usual call back thing, confirmed my number was good for calling back. Then she said she had to reboot and would call me right back. She never called.

I ordered another pair of 8Gb sticks direct from Crucial today to give 16Gb another chance. If this pair doesn't work I am convinced it's a hardware issue with the system.

I have included an image of my typical crash with this issue.

I have 16gb 1.35v crucial in my 2012 13 i5 with a 830 ssd and it works fine.

I did some 8gb ram in my old 2010 13 and it gave the odd screen glitch the odd time.

I would say its the ram

There are plenty of people running 2 x 8GB 1.5v RAM in their 2012 model MBPs. Just find a few you like and read the reviews at newegg.

Wrote the wrong ram voltage

I meant to write 1.35v, not 3.5v on the RAM. Anyway, I wanted to keep the voltage down if I could. These machines run hot already. I'm not sure how much more heat the 1.5v modules produce or how much of hit you take on battery life from them but because I'm already running a dual drive (Fusion) I assume my battery life will be diminished. If all else fails I will give the 1.5v a shot. I'm going to try the Crucial modules. If they're a bust I'll give OWC a shot before going to a 1.5v module. In the past I never even cared what voltage my ram was and never had a problem. I've run into issues with Macs being finicky about ram before but I've never had any problems with brand new modules, only when throwing old sticks at them to see if they would work.

Sorry, but this remains very true that MBP still have issues with the M4. They did not release a new firmware is 000F will still lock up like crazy. Where's your proof?

The latest Crucial m4 firmware is '010G'. Runs like butter, for now, no problems;) I upgraded my 512GB m4 from shipped '000F' before I installed it as my second data SSD.

I have no problem with cMBP9,2 and 16GB from OWC, on OS X 10.8.2. No weird screens at all, not a single glitch for the last three weeks.

I'd try to replace the RAM. If it's OWC, they'll ship you a replacement fast;)
