I have a mid 2012 non-retina Macbook Pro 9,1. 16GB memory. 512GB SSD and I recently replaced my swollen apple battery (track pad would not work with the swollen battery) with a 3rd party battery and since then my MBP has been going to sleep randomly, while using it. The new battery seems to work just fine, it charges without any problem, holds it charge while unplugged from a power source. If I leave my laptop plugged in (which I have to do since I use an external 27" Thunderbolt Apple monitor, with an external USB keyboard and wireless mouse) it randomly goes into a forced hibernation. The screen goes black, the charging LED goes amber, even though the battery is at 100%, and the only way I can wake it up is with power button. When it powers back up, everything is back to where it was when it went to sleep. I have reset the SMC and PRAM numerous times and I have also reinstalled the OS, also more than once, which is version 10.13.3. Nothing seems to work. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If that doesn’t work then could be faulty battery or something else power-related that’s misbehaving (which could possibly be related to the swelling of the old battery.)

Thanks

I have already tried everything from that support post on Apple.com. The swelling of the old battery is a known issue with the MacBook Pro Apple batteries, it is well documented, but Apple doesn't recognize it as an issue. It could be a faulty battery, I will approach the 3rd party vendor and see what kind of response I get from them. I wanted to make sure that I tried everything from Apple before approaching the battery vendor.

Swelling batteries are a known issue that can happen to any laptop battery. I’ve had it happen to an HP laptop I used to own, co-workers have had it happen to Lenovo units, and extended family have had it happen to Dell’s. It’s not isolated to just Apple products.

However, due to the internal nature of them in Apple products, when they swell the product itself has a higher than normal risk of being damaged. You don’t have the same amount of risk when the battery just slides into the side/bottom of an HP, Lenovo, or Dell laptop, which is most likely why most of the complaining you’ll see about swelling batteries will involve an Apple product. For the rest, people will usually just get rid of the old battery, and then put a new one in and carry on. Of course, that doesn’t mean that nobody complains about the HP, Lenovo, Dell’s, etc. having bulging or swollen batteries. There’s lot’s of reports online about them all.

I tired a few other things to see if I can see any error messages. I ran EtreCheck and got the following results (note that the computer went into hibernation 6 times over the last three days.)

I am not sure if this has anything to do with the mpb going in hibernation or not.
