You do seem to be missing the point that Apple has traditionally been a leader in professional creative fields and helped usher in the 'desktop revolution' in everything from publishing to filmmaking. It's not unreasonable for professionals in these fields to take issue w/what they see as short comings in Apple's top of the line laptop.

Lethal

My thoughts exactly!

If Apple had a 15'' MacBook with all these bling, while retaining the more traditional customisable MacBook Pro, that would be fine.

> Glossy Screen = Glare = Personal Preference
Personal preference matter! If you have a bad back, you will buy a chair that you are most comfortable sitting in. For a given sum of money, you would buy a car+options that fits your needs the most. So why should professionals (or indeed whoever wants to buy MBPs) not be allowed to customise their machine to fit their requirements?

> FireWire 800 is compatible with FireWire 400
Of course it is... if you wanted another cable or adapter to keep track of. This goes the same for Mini DisplayPort -- that's another cable to keep track of. Or two, maybe even three depending on what you need. Surely the whole point of 'portability' is to be able to move around with ease. Having more adapters just means more stuff to keep track of.

Yeah, somebody should cut the PRO from apple altogether.

Maybe it is the consumer products, such as iPod and iPhones that are selling so well, are changing the way apple thinks. It is a company afterall and a companys 1st goal is to make profit. :/ The days when G5-towers were a sign of a seriously professional production (audio/video) suite are long gone. Now it is like "Hey check out my new touchscreen!"

The "pro" application support is the worst one out the, in other words it does not exists. In the audio field all the major (ok, rule the digidesign out :p ) DAW-software manufacturers communicate with their clients/users. At Apple you have to pay for support and there is no guarantee that your problem is solved and there will be no official word in the user / 3rd party forums/discussions. It is much nicer to have have a official recognintion that there is a flaw/bug (and maybe a promise that it will be fixed) than have many users just guessing what the issue really is (and in the true mac owner spirit, there is always the idiot who chimes in and says "mine works just fine").

Apple should detach the "pro" section from the main company in to its own division which would not be constrained by the main Apple brand.

Apple has made people believe that their products are superior in media production field, too bad that they don't deliver any of that anymore. They have gone into luxury / status symbol product company.

Hey how about some swarovski crystals in MBP's?

There is no distinction at all now. When someone walks into the store they will see two laptops that look identical, and one is more expensive. I predict that MBP sales go through the floor.

Quit blubbing, kid. No one's forcing your wallet open.
No, they tricked him...

They said "Hey man, switch to Mac. Life will be so much better. They don't get viruses, they're easy to use and real pretty." :)
When that didn't work, they said "MORON! PC's suck! You're like, a looooser or whatever! You don't have a Mac- you're not cool like Lauren Hill or that dude with the goggles."
