Hello, I have macbook pro a1278 2010 model, I bought it from ebay. so, when I received it, it was bot chargin when it was turned on, but when it was turned off, it was charging fine. so, I was reinstalling os x (I have done it before) battery completely drained and laptop turned off. when I connected charger, green light comes on but battery not charging, I left it for night to charge but nothing, not charged.
what I have tried:
reset smc, several times
unplug and replug battery
unplug battery, press power button for 5 seconds, connect magsafe adapter and reinserted battery.
nothing happened, still not charging, but green light is always on.
abyone can provide me what to do? there is not any certified apple repair service in my country

Can you see whether it's an original Apple, or say an LMP battery? It could be the case the battery is an original but has run out of loading cycli...

It's original Apple battery, but how can I chek if it has run out of loading cycl? It's not turning on, also, it would not start without battery when magsafe is connected

If you are using the right adapter the machine should turn on without the battery. If it doesnt something else all together is a miss.....

It was charging before, but only when it was turned off

Did you get right charger?

E.G. magsafe does a 16.5 and 18.5 version.

18.5 will work on both, but my macbook pro has 18.5 where the macbook has 16.5 charger.
And is it genuine charger?

I accidently mixed chargers up and my macbook pro did not charge, but I marked them so I spotted my mistake.

I used to have macbook A1278 but late 2008 model, and I am using it's oem apple's charger on my macbook a1278 but 2010 model, but it was working before, but only when it was turned off, I dont know which version is it, but it has L type nagsade connector

voltage is printed on it, I looked up yours and it 16.5 so both types will work anyway.

My pro would not charge either, I removed battery and charger held power button of about 6 seconds put battery back in then connected charger. Took about 30 mins to start charging but battery was at zero.

now holds almost full charge from original.

In my case, when I connect magsafe adapter, green light comes on, but it's bot charging, even when I left it to charge for a night

could be bad battery as my ibook did that, bought new battery and all ok.

The reset in your first post if for macs with removable batteries, it different for fixed batteries.

It is a keyboard combo on boot.
Will see if can find it for you.

EDIT:

here you go.

This is how to reset SMC on most modern Mac laptops, none of which have a removable battery:

  1. Shutdown your MacBook Air / MacBook Pro
  2. Connect the power adapter to the Mac
  3. On the MacBook / Pro’s keyboard, hold down the Shift+Control+Option keys and the Power button at the same time
  4. Release all keys and the power button at the same time – the little light on the MagSafe adapter may change colors briefly to indicate the SMC has reset
  5. Boot your Mac as usual

I have done it before, nothing happend. you can remove/unplug battery connector on my mac

yes you can remove battery from your mac if you can open it up and get inside.

I had unplug mine in 2009 unibody a while back.
