macbook pro not recognizing built-in speaker audio output

hey,

the only option my computer gives when selecting audio outputs is "digital out...built-in output"

the internal speakers, built in output is no longer available.

is it possible to re-install the sound drivers to fix this problem? or would re-installing the OS work?
