Wow thats crazy. I have been using an M2 Air with a notch for a year+ and I had forgotten there was a notch until I saw your comment. I had a look up and see ....my laptop has a notch. Apparently it doesnt bother me....
do you have a dark wallpaper or use dark mode all the time?

I don't and it was very distracting when I used it with the notch. Plus the menu bar items keep disappearing due to running out of space.

Never use dark mode and dont use dark wallpaper. I am sure it's bothersome for many. I was just surprised I had completely forgot about while using the computer.

Maybe one day they will figure out the technology to make batteries that you can change, imagine if there was a button you press.... AND THE BATTERY COMES OUT! wow... If only... :)

If you are of the age, you’ve already lived through this, where laptop batteries might give you 2 hours of usage. And additional batteries were not cheap, nor did any of them last for more than a couple of years before they started to swell and fail.

Refurbished M2 Max MBPro w/64gb ram continues to be my fave bargain...and I edit complex multi-layer 4k video often.

It was noted as a bargain in multiple analyses when M3 arrived, and really continues to be so. Resale/used prices correspondingly continue to be high for that model. Upgrade to M4 if you want to be drunk with power, but I'm quite happy to wait till the M5....when our AI overlords really take control....:p

This is very misleading as it's only referencing video playback hours. You need to look at the wireless-web metric to get a more realistic expectation
Everyone has done this for a long time.. the battery length specified as the headline is always for video playback. Because during video playback the processors is effectively mostly idle and it’s custom designed video decoding hardware is doing the work.. just sipping battery power.

Also take note in the small print about display brightness. A lot of people use laptops in brightly lit rooms and sometimes next to windows or outside and the display is a battery hog, it can decimate battery runtime, especially on older worn out batteries.

I’m happy the 16” embeds the largest battery you can take on a plane and just leaves it at that.

Anyone with Max chip (no matter the series) will tell that 21, 22, or even 17 hours is a fairy tale. You'll never even come close to those values.
I've got a 16" MBP M1 MAX with 64GB RAM and 2TB SSD...Nope not a fairy tale, just reality. Still after those years and a few cycles.

LOL I did the same, I was like what notch? And I had to look for it, damn yes it has a notch.

Very impressive! Now, if only Apple could make a Watch battery that lasts 24 hours… 😂 🙏

Completley agree. Especially for the 14".
Usually, Apple does not lie on these tests, but they vastly overestimate real world usage.
On a 14", Max lasts 8 hours max for me, maybe 10 if careful. 16" 10, maybe 12.
And that's with brightness turned down, and without any sustained heavy tasks.

Lol, I don't believe you. Unless all you do is open a few tabs and an e-mail on it.

They do, it’s called the Apple Watch Ultra. Mine easily does 48 hours and gets damed near 72 hours. The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is advertised as getting 36 hours. So your prayer has been answered, Apple has just the watch for you… 😉

Yup, my ultra 2 lasted just over three days this week. That is with the e-SIM activated as well.

Now that the regular M4 has the same ports (I realize they aren't thunderbolt 5) and the same external display support as M4 Pro

In theory, the ones with Thunderbolt 5 ports should have better external display support due to TB5's extra bandwidth. But I guess it's a moot point since there aren't any Thunderbolt 5 displays yet.

Notches and 60hz refresh - things that no one but here and tech journos care about.
To be fair, on Mac that's fine. On iPhones, they're extremely annoying. Especially when there's almost no one else who does any of those at any price point
