Me: Wait, there's an iPad Pro with an OLED display? Wait, I have an iPad Pro 13-inch (M4)? Wait, my iPad Pro has an OLED display? Wow, that's cool!

Am I correct that even with the OLED production issue cleared, the 16" redesign is still unlikely to be released this Fall but earlier 2027?

Eagerly looking forward to the redesigned MacBook Pro. Hopefully it will have cellular connectivity option too. Think it might launch only in 2027.

We silver haired folk with years in the industry loved a DEC PDP-11/73 maxed out with 2GB of ram. It could support up to 64 users based upon the operating system.
I assume you mean 2MB, not 2GB, as I'm pretty sure that model only supported a maximum 4MB... even by 1994, 2GB was the largest DEC hard drive I could get.

And just for context for those "good old days" since everyone is fretting about the high RAM prices now, if you somehow did get a PDP11 to support 2GB, the DEC price list I found from 1984 shows 512KB MOS Memory at $2000, which would put the cost of the probable 2MB at $8000 and the hypothetical 2GB at $8,192,000. By 5 years later in 1989 I recall being able to get raw RAM chips (definitely not higher DEC pricing) for around $100 per MB after there was a shortage price spike, and even that would have added up to $204,800 for 2GB, assuming that I'm doing my math correctly.

We will see how bad things get this time, but the fact the 1TB SSD I bought at Christmas for $159 is now selling for $349 makes me think prices on most assembled computers are likely going up for a while. I'm curious to see how Apple deals with this market.

Sadly the OLED won’t be the reason why the price will be extremely expensive it’s the CHIP shortage crying 😭 all thanks to AI
I wouldn’t be surprised if it starts at $2999 for the 14in.
That will definitely be a factor. I'll have to appreciate it from afar if your starting price proves accurate.

Burn in concerns? Easy. BRING. BACK. AFTER. DARK.
If you've been around for a while, you know. Flying Toasters can definitely make a comeback.

Also, if there's a notch, I'm not interested no matter how good this display is.
I crashed my Mac with After Dark so many times back in the day. The Lunatic Fringe game was great though

Excellent comments! We just need to buy a laptop based on what we need to do in daily life. I have to admit Fear Of Missing Out(FOMO) of top Apple Products hitting me often ☺️but I do my best defeating it by looking what I will do with the products to my daily life. For example, I am looking forward for iPhone Ultra or foldable to have only 1 device functioning as a mini tablet and phone. I rarely use my iPad. For me, consolidating iPad and iPhone to 1 device is excellent for simple maintenance and usage.
The FOMO is real with Apple. If the Ultra can serve as a phone + iPad combo, then it would make more sense to get it for sure.

Yesss I agree -

Agreed! I suffer the FOMO with Apple all of the time. I’ve decided putting the most into my phone is the best option since I use it the most throughout my daily life, so I got the iPhone 17PM. A 2-in-1 Ultra sounds good if it eliminates the iPad cost!

Just get rid of the goddamn notch! And then offer a "lower-tier" version with mini-LED and I'll be fine. The current mini-LED screen is so amazing. Seriously, I prefer my m3 pro's screen when sitting side-by-side with my mom's OLED windows laptop's screen. If there is even the slightest chance in hell that burn-in could happen with the static items on the screen, then OLED is a no for me.

Fully been ready to spend all the monies on the tandem OLED Macbook Pro. The iPad with it is already probably the best display you can plausibly own. It's not just perfect blacks, the pixel response time on the LCD on the mini LED panels blunts the impact of ProMotion a lot, OLED on 120 is going to be crispy, plus that responsiveness for the HDR UI elements they're adding too.

And notice how you experienced zero burn-in issues with those devices. The fear mongering around burn-in has reached new levels of insanity.

I forget that “buy now, pay later” traps are all the new rage. People might Klarna it to death for more debt.

I’m not going to lie. Get Upgraded is the best option for those who want the “pay later”. Like the iPhone Upgrade program, 36-Months, but upgrade every two years.

Do you guys expect a significant price increase?

As of now, the 14” starts at $1699 and the 16” starts at $2699.

With a redesign, Tandem OLED and [possibly 5G], we could see $2,500 starting for 14” and $3,500 for 16”. Fully spec’d could be north of $8,000.

If Apple keeps the 2TB as base with 128GB of RAM, it could be at least $6,000.

Different use case. OLED displays for "workstation" use are widely reported to encounter burn in.

Regardless, I think Apple should produce a higher-level of MB, maybe the MacBook S line, even thinner, with OLED, and high-end finishes. Maybe hire LoveFrom to do the super-thin design.

Then, hire some other industrial design firm for another new product line, the MacBook P line, thicker, 17" display 3840x2400, matte, bigger battery, lots of ports, the fastest AS processors, and heavier heat-sinks, more ultra-quiet fans with more air movement, and built-in cellular data antenna. Should weigh about 3 kg.

No matter what? I have an oled tv, oled watch, oled phone, oled iPad. Never once seen burn in
My 6 year old kitchen 55inch LG OLED has burn in and is now ghosting. Every OLED device eventually gets burn in because of the Organic aspect of the diodes. Its a fact of matter, its science, its going to happen no matter what marketing BS you hear or what you actually think. It will happen.

I disagree. Burn in only happens to panels that are used. If people buy and collect toys that they don’t really use they won’t see burn in. Many Apple devices are bought as trinkets so are more likely to suffer from over polishing than burn in.
I imagine Apple will continue to sell both, although most pros will upgrade before burn in is an issue as the cost of upgrade is part of doing business.

I don’t see why it would unless you leave things on the screen forever. My LG OLED 65” is just as old with no burn in. Actually the only time I w seen burn in is on people’s cheap old android phones. One of my friends fell asleep in her phone and the Home Screen never turned off so there was pink burn in of all the icons really bad… but this was a cheap around back in the early days of OLED. I’ve never seen it on an iPhone or Apple Watch. There’s tech to mitigate it from happening these days
