As for the direct comparison, that PC will be faster. The 9800 GT is a faster card.

If your happy to spend around $1K, you can build a system yourself that will be much faster.

If you want to do more research look for benchmarks for the 9600M GT and the 9800 GT, good way to compare.
Thanks for the replies.
I don't want to build a computer because I don't know how and I have bad, bad luck when screwing around with computers. I short circited my mobo as well as other parts of my last desktop. I had issues putting in ram in my MB and thought I burnt something there, ect.

So it is a better computer for gaming? thanks.

I don't honestly see how this is a question we could answer for you.
Why not? you could easily answer by explaining me exactly how good gaming on the MBP is, and you could compare the MBP to the computer I was thinking about getting and tell me which would be a more worthy purchase.

I just put together a quad core PC for a friend, with an ATI 4870 (better than 9800 GT, btw) and he paid about $1,100 altogether. Pretty compelling and awesome. As far as the decision, it comes down to portability. If you want power over portability, then the question my friend, has already been made.

The Tiger computer will be better than a Mac Pro or MBP for gaming. But NO, it is not faster than a Mac Pro overall by a long shot. But, the Mac Pro is not built for gaming.

Apple should come up with a line of Laptops that competes with Alienware and Dell XPS. I think it would be pretty sweet. Definitely would get more developers to port Windows only games to Mac. :D

Not sure if you have made up your mind yet, but...

Desktop all the way for gaming (obviously). The MBP wasn't designed for gaming and it costs waaaaay more than a desktop machine (as everyone has already pointed out).

I'm writing this post because the desktop computer you referenced is overpriced IMO. I suggest going to a local computer store and asking them which pre-configured machines they have available. I have three local computer stores around me, and each offers custom gaming machines with full 3 year warranties, OS, and system assembly. Sure, it's not an "HP" or "Dell", but it's made with brand name parts (not cheap OEM parts). I could get a desktop built with those exact specs for probably $500.

If you have the money for both I would go with both I mean you could use your desktop for gaming and have your laptop that you can take with you every where you go
