We'll just wait till the 22nd and see if this MAYBE is true!

Just a side question... Is it worth it to wait a year or so for Nehalem? Will it be such dramatic improvement over the current (or Montevina) MBs that it makes it worth it to stay a year without a MB?

If you're needs are urgent... no!
If you can do with your old notebook, yes its definitely worth the wait and its gonna be even better than when Apple upgraded to C2D from CD!

Calpella (Mobile Nehalem) will bring in lots and lots of features and trash many of the old Intel characteristics (like separate Memory controller and FSB hassles) too!:D

that would be fine by me...I am just going to sit and wait (here in the UK) until September ish I think.

yeah seriously lol, weren't you the one who said no new updates till 2009 or something? i remember your avatar haha. whats with the sudden change of thought?

I said 2009 for Nehalem at all and Q3 2009 for Nehalem notebooks.

The sudden change of thought comes from the fact that my mom wants one because I need a better laptop than my G3 iBook for Ireland, but the 22nd is the last day she'll let me wait (I'm so going to get another week out of that)

You're all right, though. Bulk order; takes time; just shipping now...

Nehalem will also bring Blu-ray

Not seeing it. As in... ever. (Aww, he's back...)

I'm in the waiting boat as well so let's hope this is true 'cause I could really use it sooner then later.

They don't really need a press event in my opinion. most of the people that will watch that event are also the same people who will know about the new laptops already. A single commercial aired during sex in the city will get a lot more attention than a small press event.

Although I like watching the events, and I'm probably wrong.

In summary: "cool".

Well for the record (forums were down last night when I tried to check back) I know that the order is fairly small, like less than 50 and they are all stock 2.4 MBPs.

Yes my University had a few Dells that came in after the semester started (I work for the Universities Computer Depot so I was around then) but most of those people ordered their laptops at the way end of the summer so that's why they came so late last year. but these were ordered June, 1 like I said so it's really hard to say.

i'm agreeing with this thread now, that its probably a silent update to Centrino 2/montevina and then next year they'll do a redesign to the macbook air-style with nalhem.

I'll keep you guys posted!

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.50 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.1.11328/542; U; en))

I would love for the new MBP to come out on the 22nd because then I would have it before my trip to LA. Thatd be great. If not the 22nd, then most liekly the 29th.

So I visit the apple store, I like THIS MBP, I decide to purchase it and then I receive something else? It is NOT possible. I prefer NOT to think that you order a piece and receive something different. Is it possible with the mighty apple?

Do NOT believe that everyone would rather receive the refreshed version than the current one.

nehalem will also bring Blu-Ray

Only if they fix the power-sucking nature of the drives by then.

As for waiting for Nehalem vs buying montivena:

1) First release of a completely new architecture is likely to have more problems than incremental chipset change

2) Depends on what you have now: Powerbook, don't wait. Original MBP, don't wait. Early Core 2 Duo MBP? Depends (I'm getting Montivena), February refresh MBP? Wait. But mostly it depends on how much disposable income you have. :D

I still stand by my prediction: Late July/Early August most likely, incremental release: new CPU, new FSB, maybe new GPU, no blue-ray, maybe new high-res 15" option, maybe esata, but nothing earthshattering. Second option is a Q4 (October) release to pad the Q4 revenue as iPhone idiocy dies down.

Macworld 2010: Nethlam and major redesign (guts at least, maybe case).

Let me clarify my situation.... I do not have a laptop, and I am a student attending college. A laptop is not currently a need but more like a greed (yeah I was a WoW addict). Nehalem will be availble a year from now... Is it worth to wait a year without a laptop just to have a Nehalem laptop? Or is it more worth it to buy my first Mac machine (MB or MBP) and I live with it for like 3 years, than when the time comes I'll update with what Apple has as a notebook at that time....

I don't get your post. The poster talked about the case redesign so he obviously saw that.

What kind of publicity do silent refreshes get? Are they really "silent"?

I honestly don't get your post either. The poster talked about a case redesign for Nehalem and a silent update for Montevina which are 2 different things/release dates. What I got out of it was he didn't think there would be a case redesign and I just directed him to a post talking about a new case that is supposedly confirmed (for Montevina coming soon)

seriously i fail to see why so many people are going crazy over this ONE IMAGE

it appeared on some random chinese blog, it barely looks like a redesign at all, and all of a sudden it's the confirmed macbook pro case?

the current case looks better anyway

I know lol, I don't get it either but supposedly it's confirmed. I'm waiting for the next released MBP and the only reason I hope this is true is for a possible better cooling solution or easy access to the hard drive. I wouldn't really care at all if they didn't because the current case looks great.

YES! I would definitely buy the 15" MBP (instead of 17") with hi res if they offered it for portability.

Considering Apple are retarded enough to offer the same GPU in both the 15" and 17", only the 15" would be able to run a high res screen to any standard anyway...
