My 15" 2010 macbook pro has been randomly shutting down the last few weeks. It gives a message saying to press a key or wait to restart it. I have a second hard drive installed in the optical drive slot to keep bootcamp on and store no OS X files on the second hard drive. What is causing this problem and how can I fix it?
The report error screen has the following information:

    Hi,

which of the drives is in the optical bay?
How regularly does the kernel panic occur (weekly/daily/hourly)?
    Have you tried safe booting?

    RGDS,

    A few things:

First, get rid of Friggin Norton Internet Security, it is complete rubbish.

Second, the panics are almost sure to be GPU related, the first Bold part is mostly about your Graphics.
Now, does this mean it is Hardware failure, I think not, I have seen plenty lately, I think it's bugs in the GPU drivers.

What to do, first delete the crappy Norton Software, on OS X it is NOT needed, if you need it in the VM software you installed use Windows defender.

Second, run Apple Hardware Test, or by holding the D key at startup or if it is an older machine from the Installer disk.(Disk 1 or 2, don't know.)

Third, run the following command in Terminal and report the output here:

    kextfind -case-insensitive -not -bundle-id -substring 'com.apple.' -print

Fourth, look in the following folders and report what is inside:

    /Library/LaunchAgents
    /Library/LaunchDeamons
    /Library/StartupItems
    ~/Home/Library/LaunchAgents
    ~/Home/Library/LaunchDeamons
~/Home/Library/StartupItems (this one probably does not exist.)

Edit:I am not sure which Graphics were on at the time of Panic, most likely NVidia, if this is the case you could manually switch to the
internal IGP and see if it crashes, do this for two days or so.
But, this should be done later on, first do the other things I recommended.

I uninstalled the security software using their uninstaller. Running the hardware test found no problems, but I did not run the extended test, should I? Running the command in terminal returned:

I was almost definitely using the Nvidia graphics, as I have been using gfxcardstatus to manually select the card.
