I was just wondering if anyone can provide any insight if a similar problem has happened to them.

I had chatted with an apple representative because my MacBook pro 15" 2014 was going to a black screen randomly and then shutting down a few minutes later with no error on reboot. The ports also stopped working for video output. I assumed that this was a graphics or motherboard problem. Anyway the chat rep (multiple) tried everything with me to rule out software, clean install, running in safe mode, etc. Nothing worked to correct the issue.

Cut to about two weeks ago. I brought my MacBook pro into the apple store to get fixed. Flat rate repair rep agreed it was probably motherboard. Sent it out for $600 to be repaired.

on the first repair they replaced the following parts:
Logic Board
A board related to the HDMI
and two cables in the enclosure

Great I thought, I brought it home all happy. Except the restarting with black screen started happening again the next day. So I scheduled another appointment and brought it in. They said thats strange, we'll send it in again and see what we can do.

on the second repair they replaced the following parts:
Logic Board
The entire display clamshell

Got it home, still hasn't restarted (fingers crossed only been a few hours with it) but the HDMI is not working at all and even with a dongle neither is the DisplayPort.

Basically here is where I am at: I go back to school soon and the closest Apple store will be roughly 2 hours away. So I really need this fixed ASAP. On Apples side the repairs have only been 2-3 days which has been great but we're starting to get close to when I go back to school.

Has anyone experienced this problem with the display and ports? Was it a specific part they replaced that fixed it? Anything I should mention for them to look at that might help for this next repair? (I have another appointment tomorrow night). Thank you for any comments / suggestions!

ADDITION: if anyone was wondering this is an out of warranty repair using the flat rate repair option Apple has.

Any updates?

Im in the same situation. Macbook pro 15' 2017 model one day just went black but the touchpad still worked. Went in before Christmas to see if they could fix it. Ended up paying $600 to have them replace logic board and then the display. Got it back and the same day it started glitching....Random shutdowns, takes forever to boot up, etc.So I went back to have them repair it again. Just hoping I dont have to pay any more money for additional parts they may want to replace. Im a college student starting class next week so hopefully this gets resolved

Yes, went in the 3rd time, they determined it was a software problem, they reset as new and updated the OS. When I picked it up its been working, haven't had a problem for the past few weeks so it seems to have worked! Best of luck to you!
