Hi guys new to these forums.

I have a 2012 macbook 13 and I'm selling it. I want to restore to factory settings clean install. Can anyone guide me?

    Hi,

I think that the best idea would be to use the recovery partition to clear the disk and reinstall the OS.

Agree with above. you also might want to run Disk Utility from the recovery partition also to wipe the drive with all zeros before doing the fresh install.

restart mbp, when you hear the chime hold Command and R this will bring you to a recovery menu

first step chose disk utility, highlight the hard drive on the left and erase the drive, make sure OS Journaled is picked as the format type

once that done exit disk utility this should bring you back to that recovery menu

now pick install OS and let it install

that should give you a clean new install

If I'm already on mavericks will it give me the option to just reinstall without any disks or anything? Also do you need an internet connection to do so? As I'm currently without wifi (moving house)

Yes, the recovery partition already exists on the drive, just hold down 'r'. And, no, don't worry about not having internet.

I think it still needs a connection, my recovery partition is only 1.25GB

    Mavericks installer is 4.1GB

Here are the official steps from Apple. You will need Internet access to reinstall the OS.
