I know the Macbook Pro Retina 256 SSD has a Samsung PM830 SSD controller but does the 512gb version also has the same controller? If so, that almost makes the jump worth going to the $2800 version as it's pretty much like having a Samsung 830 512 SSD in that machine.

I don't think that has been confirmed, but it seems very unlikely that they would use a different controller for the 512. Especially since they reported specific ssd performance specs.

Either Samsung or Toshiba, it's the luck of the draw really as Apple uses more than one supplier for stuff like SSDs.
