The problem with my macbook is the display that turns off randomly, You can hear that the computer is still on but the display is black and the brightness controlls do not work. TO turn the computer back on I have to restart using the power button. I sometimes restart 5 times for the screen to turn back on sometimes i restart more then 20 times. While restarting u can hear the laptop turning on and the tone, but the screen doesnt turn on

I did the command + option + p + r reset a couple times it never helped. The screen also turned off after connecting hdmi cable. It happens usually when i ue power consuming programs, it happens with the powerd cord connected and disconnected so that doesnt matter

I just did the smc reset it didnt help the screen i blacking out ounce I turn on a video game, is it a problem with the motherboard or the graphics card?

Usually, that kind of thing is either the Screen or the Video chip on the motherboard (also called Logic Board.)

If you know the laptop is still on - playing normal osx sounds or videos, then it is often the screen.

Can you try plugging in an external monitor? If that works, it is probably the screen.

Regardless, I would take it to an Apple Store if you have one near you.

Good luck

Happyslayer: when the screen goes black and the sound was on i can here three fragments of music that was playing but its cut and sounds odd then it stops and I can still here the fan and other internals working baut the screen is still black.

Happyslayer: I tried to connect an hdmi but its doesnt work

Will Apple do a free diagnostic of what is wrong?
My warranty is over and Im afraid thats going to be a lot of money to repair it :(

Today I ran the diagnostic my self using the D-key while turning the computer on and it didnt show me any failures but on the information screen of the video card I saw that my resolution is half of the one Im supposed to have it was about 1440 x ..

The good thing after running the diagnostic tool is that I didnt have the screen going black for a longer time, but unfortunetly it occured and the most annoying part when it goes black I have to restart and once I do the screen stays black. The thing that helps to make the screen turn on is to leave the macbook for some time, close it and after some time it works fine

:( please help

Did you ever end up figuring out what was wrong?

I have the identical issue. I have to sometimes restart 5+ times or leave the laptop turned off and closed for 5+ min before the screen comes back. And then it fails again very quickly.
