Ultima Online Renaissance can be played directly on a mac, you don't need to create a partition using boot camp, nor use windows. There is a particularly large North American contingent. It also differs from the original in that it only has Felucca, no Trammel. New players can start in a location, Occlo, where they start as "Young" character though as soon as they move out into the wider game they lose the young status.

There are more and more games that are available to mac users without the partition/windows, as Mac computers become more widely used. Another is PlaneShift though I have not tried it. Another is Dark Age of Camelot, though that is less clear, I think the server uses Linux. The only way is to try it and see! Another is Albion Online which is crowd funded though free. It is in its beta development phase but anyone can join the forum and discuss, until the final version is settled. There is also Wesnoth, that I have tried, it is player vs computer but can also be played by teams against others.

I am sure there are others, I just have not tried them.

What do you guys think about LoL? (I've never been a RPG's player. I was more FPS type, however, I would like to give RPG's/MOBA a try).

I've never tried League of Legends, its all combat oriented, which is not my thing. As an old man my reactions are too slow for arena combat, so I tend to go for sandbox type games that give you the whole perspective of the world to discover and develop your character just as you want.

But I have added it to my growing list of Mac-friendly MMORPG.:)

I don't know about many good free to play games out there, but I surely know about super cheap great games. Ever heard of Humble Bundle?
(A bundle of 4-6 games, usually there is at least one Mac native. You decide the price, the minimum amount is $1. Redeemable from Steam or often downloadable DRM free.)

IMHO, the F2P model is a great way to annoy players and destroy the healthy competition in many games, so I always find it better to just buy games in bundles or discounted.

The problem I have is not my Mac, it is the poor quality of my internet connection. Games like WoW and Drakensang Online, don't work because the programme crashes. Some of the simpler games work, like Villagers and Heroes, but that is really a kiddies game.

Dunno how bad internet connection crashes WoW. I know those in AU/NZ had extremely poor connection (1k+ ms) yet they still managed till recently when they finally got a data center. Sweden has one of the best Internet, I thought. Unless, of course you're on dial-up then well, yeah...online games may not be such a good idea. >.< Might be a good idea to gander at your ISP's help desk to figure out a solution.

Our internet connection is reasonable enough that I have managed to get Drakensang Online working.
