Studio displays are seriously backordered as well. I've noticed that people are selling standard versions (no height adjustment etc) on e-bay for almost double the retail price. It's totally out of hand.

I ordered 14" M1 Max 24 core 1TB ssd and 64GB ram on Feb 3rd. It was initially supposed to be delivered in April now has been pushed back unil mid June. I really am worried about Apple making this computer obsolete before I even get to use it? Surely they will delay the M2 version of the MBP until customers actually get to use the M1 versions they have ordered??
Is anyone having apple talk to them about a "goodwill gesture"? I dont want an extra after my laptop is delivered. If Apple wants to throw me a bone and they want me to be happy about it (and they really havent started building this computer yet)- throw in a 2TB ssd instead of the 1TB ordered. I would even pay half the difference.

M1 will not become obsolete when M2 comes out. Obsolete means it doesn't receive updates and is discontinued for many years. We still have a long time before that happens.

Don't worry about what comes next, it's iterative compared to the Intel to AS transition.

and yet in the refurb section of several countries there's dozens of models available to be delivered in just days.

Stay clueless fam.

Should I wait to order a standard config 16” M1 Max 32GB 1TB ? Ideally I dont want to buy a Mac that’s going to be replaced in a couple of months with a new processor, I’d rather get the newer model.

Should apple hold off on the M2 because of the supply chain issues ?

I ordered a 16” M1 Max 32 Cores 32GB 1TB on the 16th of December 2021 from a reseller in Spain, still waiting (almost 5 months), they haven't got a clue on the status of my order. The reseller says that Apple won't tell them any info. This is very embarrassing, shame on Apple, my current 2015 MacBook Pro is on the verge of dying and I need a proper Mac for business.

Resellers are back of the queue. Why didn't you just order from Apple directly???

Even if a M2 is released later this year, the M2 Max won't be released alongside it. Not for another year or so at least IMO.

They had a discount, I saved 300 bucks. Regretting it now...
Yeah, well they have your money while you have nothing to show for it.

Request a refund and place your order with Apple as it will be far quicker.
I'm not sure if i'll receive the Apple order earlier than the reseller, there's a 5 month difference, even if the reseller goes slower, it's a huge gap in time. Maybe I'll order also from Apple and cancel the order that doesn't arrive first. Might even bump up the RAM up to 64 gigs on this one. Thanks for the advice.

I don't think we'll see an M2 Max this year. Perhaps early next year (~18 months after M1 Max); perhaps not until late next year (24 months).

to all the China hater above, please try use your brain to understand a little of the big picture and trend now.
do you ever heard any words of "internal cycle" or "double cycle" from your media? these have been said by China official at least 3 years now.
what does this mean?
it means China is actively decoupling with US and US system, it will take years, the schedule is 2025 finishing the job.
several impacts:
  1. Worldwide hyper inflation for all industrial goods except China. it has already started, but just beginning.
  2. China RMB will raise significantly but slow & steady, this will also add to your inflation.
  3. a global financial crisis (except China), maybe not bigger as 2008, but will last much longer, e.g. 10+ years.
  4. political unrest, you can figure by yourself what happened in Weimarer Republik back then.
  5. most of ordinary family in West will lose its wealth, many drop out of middle class.
you think Vietnam and India can replace China? think about Asia 1997 economic criss.
you can remember my word and look back when 2025

I ordered a stock build 14” in early April and it’s not shipping until early June (for now) and I’m apparently one of the lucky ones.
Have you been checking the stores? They’re always in stock at the Apple stores near me and Best Buy always has at least 1 open box near me.

Yeah, there’s nothing at my local Apple Store. As for Best Buy, I wouldn’t even buy AA batteries from them.

That’s your choice, but it is probably your best option if you don’t want to wait another 2 months.

I bought my 16” M1 Max open box through them and it has been flawless ever since.

I would also add StockX, but I’m not sure if their severely underpriced MacBook Pros are stolen or not during some Antifa riot or something.
