Macbook Pro Slow Startup (10.5.8)

My old Macbook Pro takes a very long time to startup for some reason.. after the grey apple loading screen it hangs on a blank blue screen for about 8-15 minutes before it starts.. How do I figure out whats causing this and how do I fix it? 😕
