I was wondering if the 2011 Macbook Pro 15" speakers were good enough that playing lossless audio would create a noticable increase in audio quality.

Not even close.

Quality headphones would do the trick, though.
 
While the 15" speakers are excellent (for a laptop) speaking from someone with his entire music collection in lossy, not anywhere close.

As the above have noted, you want to hear the difference then get yourself some good headphone - mine are Shure in ear 535's. The problem with listening to lossless music is it makes you a sound snob!
