Wrong!

It is definitly possible to combine Core i processors with a dedicated Nvidia in small 13" Notebooks:

Acer TravelMate TimelineX 8372
ASUS U30JC-QX101V
ASUS U33JC-RX040V Bamboo
ASUS U36JC-RX109V
Dell Vostro 3300
Lenovo IdeaPad Z360
Packard Bell EasyNote Butterfly S-JO-026GE
Samsung QX310, Core i5-460M 2.53GHz,
Sony Vaio VPC-S11V9E/B

Hey! Just because everyone else can do it doesn't mean Apple can!

;)

Apple will do it - in 2012.

The "3rd" USB port is the lightpeak port. That's my bet.
The image of the german package text (and a port picture) linked in this thread says it would be a combined MiniDP- and Thunderbolt-Port. Would deviate from all the USB-type prototypes, but might be in line with the claim to connect even displays via that port in the long run...

*starts a new rumor* Then Apple will refresh its displays soon (*rolls the dice*) - to be precise: exactly one week after the iPad - to include the Thunderbolt connector as only connection type, adapter to DP / DVI included for the first 500 orders only ;-)

That thunderbolt logo really looks crappy.
OMG - soon J. Ive will be on sick leave as well! ;)

BTW, theses specs are stange : if not looking for brute power and optical drive, why not to buy a 13' MBA with 4Gb Ram instead of a 13' MBP ?

It's cheaper, lighter, has a better resolution, better battery life... and SSD as standard.

Better battery life? Did i miss something? MBA claims 5-7hrs battery life, whereas the MBP 13" already claims 10hrs today (with rumors saying it'd go up to 12hrs), so battery life is 2x that of the MBA. And the MBP has a backlit keyboard (that and because of the superior screen with optical coating instead of simply being matte i still own my Rev.B MBA).

Regarding SSD: The MBP can easily take any (priceworthy) standard SSD - the MBA can't.

Is it just me, or does even the name Thunderbolt sound a bit cheesy and amateurish. [...] For some reason, the name just doesn't feel right.
FireWire --> ThunderBolt. They probably want to top their former fastest I/O port name while staying in the imaginative wording (fire, lightning (fast), energy...)

1200 x 800 resolution on the 13inch doesn't seem to make sense to me.

I mean the 11" and 13" Airs have better displays than that. Why would they intentionally have a "Pro" product screen worse than the Air?
Is this to do with spacing (not at all tech savvy, though seriously, doesn't really make sense to me)?

I just bought a refurbished MacBook Pro, here are the specs:

15" screen
2.66ghz core i7
4gb ram
512gb hd
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with 512MB

I spent $1850 on it. Should I return it and get one of the new ones? Will I probably be able to get a better computer for that price new?

There are so many things that compel me on the new machines like the higher res screens, lightpeak, and the SSD boot drive..

Talked to my good source, this is what they said...

Macbook Pro:
- This will be the last refresh before the all new design.
- This release will be minor, everyone is looking at the next design, likely to release late 2011.
- Redesign will be more Air-like.
- Redesign's big feature will be a really high screen quality (makes the HD screen talk for the refresh questionable).
- Redesign will be fully SSD, 256 and 512GB options.
- Light Peak (called HSIO in-house for High-Speed Input/Output) possibly not coming out in the refresh...at last check, they will still working on the cables and they're not ready.
- Tinkering with the keyboard and trackpad but not sure what and when changes will occur.
- No idea about Liquidmetal.

iPad2:
- Camera.
- Thinner and lighter, with a flatter back.
- No Retina display, probably the same display quality as the first gen.
- Possibly a less glossy screen.

iPhone:
- Delayed until September.
- White will be an option.

Thats a pretty hefty machine you have, not sure if the new machine would offer a noticeable increase in performance. However you would have peace of mind knowing you have the latest specs as well as the updated technology enhancements made to it. The downside is that the real problems if there are any wont be discovered until the masses get their hands on the product.

I for one have 8 days left of my 14 day window to return my 13" MBP to Best Buy should the new ones make themselves available tomorrow. I stand to gain a great improvement as I have the Core2Duo model and the i5 runs circles around that CPU

Yeah right...

Your sources are really special. Much like EVERY RUMOR SITE ON THE PLANET

Yeah.. I have until March 9th. I'm probably gonna upgrade just to have the latest setup since I just got it a few days ago I might as well get the new one. How long does it usually take until refurbished models go up on the store?

My source works in Apple R&D. He doesn't know everything and is separate from the iPhone department, but he's been on it with everything he's told me up until now (Air, iPad, glass trackpad...).

In fact, keep my post in mind when the Pro's get announced.

How often do you want to post this ?

You truly do not know what you are talking about. SSD is excellent for opening and accessing word files. That's what it is designed for.

A standard HDD for movies and music is fine and that is likely why the rumor is that there will be two drives. One for applications and one for the media.

A word file opens just fine from a hard drive too. SSD seems like overkill for that. I like the idea of an SSd for the OS and apps but to replace an HD for an SDD is not a good move yet. Too expensive and too little storage capacity.

I'm already going back to my ipod classic for music. I like having the iphone with music and phone combined. But I' tired of having to manage what music I currently want on the iphone.

Not too often since it requires work, but often enough so I don't have to go and dig through the pages. Thanks for quoting it on pg. 43 though.

Your not special.

BTW My Apple source says your Apple source isn't real...

Yeah must be really painful to post a new reply...

and since it's your own special source, why would you have to look at your own post to know what it says ?
