Is it just me...ThunderBolt? This sounds like someone was drunk/high watching cartoons. Maybe they got stuck on thunder cats. Who knows.

If you check the translations of the specifications of French and German leaks it's a combined Thunderbolt & mini display port.

Would seem to make some sense for economy of ports - one less thing to try to figure into the case and motherboard design.

What I wonder is whether it will result in any better graphics or similar?

I don't know - would ThunderBolt be faster than a DVI connection in terms of sending information to a monitor? (I have no idea if what I'm saying makes any sense.)

this would really be a disappointment...

so the big upgrades are:
- a new yet-to-be-industry-adopted cable jack
- hd facetime camera... which is useless for those of us who dont have T3 connections on both ends
- slightly more graphics memory
- slightly faster RAM

......

big whoop... i was hoping for:
- higher-res display
- SS-*****-D
- faster processor maybe, instead of a SLOWER one

I would have liked "LightSpeed" but who care about the name of the port anyway. Just put it to use and be happy.

As a german native speaker i can tell you that it says 'supports Thunderbold- and DisplayPort-devices', so i think it's a combined port.

The port can drive displays as well.

if this is the thunderbolt then what has happened to the mini display port?

Apple has been moving to keeping the I/O on one side for smaller laptops, USB on Air excluded, so I cant see them putting the display on the other side.

although I would love if this is true!!

I see my mistake now :)

Is is a defect in the photo or is there a new small pin on the left USB-port too?

When you look closer, it looks like the photo has been "cut" diagonally through the left USB-port... Maybe fake?
Here's a closer look:

If the thunderbolt port is really in the form of the mini-display port we might see it on the iPad 2

I think that the new MacBook Pro's and iPad 2 are coming at the media event that has the title of: prepair for some thunder

I hope you people understand, that there's no way in hell that this is the Pro model. MAYBE the original white Macbook upgrade, but NOT a pro model.

ThunderCrotch is what it ought to be called because it is Mac Users who want Blu-ray as an option who are getting ****ed by Apple.

Calling it now: this configuration replaces the white Macbook at $999.

I would poop myself.

this is funny. it is a fake, people. macbook pro doesn't even use intel HD 3000 (back in 2007 or something). plus, there is no share or dedicated graphic card on spec? what's even obvous fake is that port shape is totally different from other news on macrumors.com. lightpeak is very similar with USB shape. take a look at macrumors.com homepage about lightpeak news.

Fake?

I think this might be fake. Why? Look at the size of the magsafe port and the Ethernet port... the Magsafe port seems to have the same clearance as my current MBP, but the Ethernet port seems to be right to the edge and it's not on my current MBP. Could just be the angle... but something seems suspicious.

I guess we'll know for sure soon!

So if this proves true, and you want to use an external monitor and Lightpeak peripherals, you'll have to use some kind of Y cable with a minidisplay port adapter on one side to connect up to whatever your monitor offers (which probably isn't MDP) and a light peak adapter on the other side (since the connector isn't MDP shaped)...

Makes sense.

Apple hasn't made a "Pro" small footprint laptop in years. I think the last small "Pro" laptop I owned was the 12" 867 Mhz G4. All the 13" I've had have been "pretty good"

- faster processor maybe, instead of a SLOWER one

Assuming this is a new Sandy Bridge i5 processor it will be way, way, WAY faster than the Core2Duo in the outgoing 13" model despite the drop in clock speed. GHz aren't everything anymore.

I think it's a great name, but why would it be next to the mini display port.. hmm.

So why would they go Unibody > Plastic > Unibody?

Why wouldn't they? They've already rumored to be dropping the Mac Book over the past few days. Perhaps theres a perception that the plastic either looks cheap compared to the rest of their lineup (MBP, iPod, MB Air, iPad) all of which use more 'exotic' materials. If a unibody doesn't cost them a huge deal extra to produce then perhaps its a logical move, especially if they were to save money on the screen etc.

when they went from Unibody > Plastic they didn't have the iPad and MB Air in the lineup to support the lower end either.
