I'm currently installing my new MBP 2.16 and I'm still blown away. I started working on Macs 1988 and own many diffenrt models. But what Apple produced with this laptop beats everything before. I do also work heavily on PCs and had an nice Acer laptop. But you can't compare it with this MBP.
And I'm happy that I bought the fastest one, it worth every cent. Well done Apple!

Yeah. I share your excitement, and I can't even afford the thing yet =)
I've said this before, and i'll say it again: All the "5x faster!" comparisons on Apples site compare the new MBPs to the best (1.67 Ghz) of the last generation G4 PowerBooks. I'm writing this on a 1Ghz 2.5 yr old TiBook. I have AirPort Un-Extreme. I have no built in Bluetooth. I have no 1.67Ghz, and i SURE as hell have no dual core. 5X faster is a lot for Apple to boast about; the upgrade from this to a MBP is going to be just staggering.

I'm excited for you, and more than a little jealous. ;)

Actually, look and feel isn't much fast than it was with my dual 867Mhz Mac. But WinXP support and monitor quality, back lightening of the keyboard, sound quality, weight, etc... is worth every cent of it.

p.s. thx ;)

I expect it's the matte finish that'll go the way of the dodo when Merom comes. I think it's only a BTO on the MBP because they're transitioning their stocks.

I don't doubt that it's a cyclical thing, and the market may go dry, but I do doubt they're gone forever. Remember, anti-glare coating was a great new feature in the early-mid 90's on a laptop - everybody was sick of the eyestrain from the previous screens.

For now, the glare-type screens have a great advantage on the shelf in the store, next to the "old" anti-glare screens 'cause the contrast is great and they look sexy. When all the machines are that way the competitive advantage will fade, then we'll see what happens.

Next time it comes around, everybody join in on the chorus.

Considering that the anti-glare coating came with the then brand-new and sophisticated active matrix LCDs, I think that particular change was the bigger crowd pleaser. The old (D)STN screens were hard to read in general. Still, you're probably right that they could make a comeback in future decades, assuming some radical developments in display technology don't make the whole issue moot.

Oh, absolutely. I just remember ads featuring "Anti-Glare Coating!" in big letters (back when people read magazines for computer stuff) and the editorials all said to make sure to get a laptop with an anti-glare coating. Presumably they weren't comparing it to nothing.

Ugh, I hope it doesn't take more than a year or two.

Well that would be nice. I eagerly await my MacBook MV (MicroVision).

I have a stupid question. Apple doesn't have any sort of program where you can trade in your old Mac for a new Mac do they? I would love it if they had something like that. As it stands now if I want a MBP I'm going to have to sell my PowerBook. How much do you think I could get for a 15" PowerBook 1.5GHz 512MB RAM stock on eBay? It's in great shape I just never upgraded the RAM or anything on it.

Apple does not have any program like that to my knowledge. I think you'll have to settle to doing it "manually" - i.e. selling your PowerBook on eBay, then putting the proceeds towards a new MacBook Pro. ;)

In that case, how much do you think I could get for my PowerBook on eBay then? I've checked out the current ones on eBay and it seems to go anywhere from ~$1,000 to a "Buy It Now" for around ~$1800 or so.

I don't follow such things very closely, so I'm probably not the best person to ask. Normally I would suggest posting your question as a "feeler" in our Marketplace section, however due to the Forum rules, you need at least 100 posts to start a thread there. :( Even though it would be off-topic, perhaps you could start a thread somewhere else asking how much you think your PowerBook might be worth, although I'm not sure what the Mods' stance would be on that either...

Thanks for the information! :)

Were any 1.67 macbook pross ever produced or shipped?
I'm not aware of any that customers ordered/received.

There's likely some test/preproduction models running around.

People pay too much for used Mac gear on eBay. Use that to your advantage. Apple wouldn't be able to do as well for you, like if you try to trade in your old car at the dealer. Granted, some people would just like the convenience.

Apple could make a good deal if they offered a migration service, though. Yeah, right after my $400 Software for Life idea goes into effect...
