I still have my Huawei Matebook pro X that was sold in the US for a very short time period. Absolutely amazing laptop for its time and jampacked full of features/specs. It has touchscreen. And for everything I used the computer for…never did I use it for touchscreen. There is absolutely nothing I couldn’t do without the mousepad. I don’t know if it’s Apple’s endgame to ditch the iPad eventually and make one laptop/tablet hybrid, but it’s a horrible idea if so. Lenovo, asus, etc…we’ve all seen them release laptoblets and they always fail to catch on.

I'm sure some will find good use for a touchscreen on a laptop, but I never did. Had a work-issued Lenovo Yoga that could morph into a tablet (I showed it off a few times to the curious but never actually used it as a tablet), and even then I never used the touchscreen. The touch experience when I played with it on the first day was pretty lacking so I avoided it.
I don't even like using my iPad Pro as a touch screen. Bought a Magic Keyboard largely for the trackpad so I almost never have to sully the screen. The savings from not having to use a screen cleaner eight times a day will probably more than cover the outrageous cost of the keyboard.

I just had a horrifying thought...Apple is introducing a touchscreen because the trackpad is going to be removed to make the laptop thinner. Stupid idea? Probably, but it's something "courageous" that the Apple of Liquid Glass, butterfly keyboards, and "You're holding it wrong" would do. 😂

Steve Jobs said that a touch-screen Mac would cause arm fatigue, but he made that comment a long time ago

...and since then AI has come along allowing humans to evolve their arms to the point where they no longer ache when heal forwards in an un-natural position.

I personally don't care about OLED since my MacBook is already connected to an OLED display. I DO care about faster SSD, Wifi 7, faster RAM and the improvements we are expecting on the GPU side from the M6.

My new laptop from work has a touch screen and I didn't even know for the first 1,5 months 😅 it also has Esim support and I have always been wondering why MacBooks don't have it like it like if fits into an Apple Watch ...

I always thought that but then I realised - it connects automatically to my phone for tethering without even really thinking about, which is the Apple advantage.

I don't know about the US but the carriers in the UK would make you buy another line just for laptop data, which is daft as I have completely unlimited data worldwide on my phone sim so i'd be tethering to that that anyway (like I do with an iPad)

Which Wi-Fi 7 AP do you have? I'm still slumming it on Wi-Fi 6 and can't be bothered to upgrade.
There's not a big advantage right now. Almost no one is properly implementing all of the wi-fi 7 features that take advantage of multiple bands/etc. 6e and 7 do benefit from the 6hz band though if your'e on regular 6

The notch on Macbooks is just pointless without Face ID, yet they managed to shoehorn it onto the iPad Pro with no notch whatsoever 🤷🏽‍♂️

Computers are tools, you buy what you need when the old tool doesn’t do its job anymore. Chasing “features” means you’ll never get what you want”need” cause there’s always new features coming …

Preach. My MacBook Pro 16 is still running neatly after all these years and I have yet to find a reason to upgrade. A new release is certainly not enough of a pull for me.

My Windows laptop though (which I use for work) I have had to replace more recently due to lagging and performance issues.

day 1 purchase for me and time to retire this 14" M1 Max which has been the best mac I have ever used [and thats a lot!]. This laptop has cost me less than a cup of coffee a day - what a bargain.

I will be going for 128gb RAM and 4tb SSD [depending on ram costs], Max chip and nano display. Should do another 5 years.

Dont care about touch screen or cellular, but looking forward to the OLED, no notch and hopefully a bit thinner and lighter [without compromising speed and use].

As far as the touch screen, I've had PC laptops with touch screens and other than using them in tablet mode, it's not worth the extra stuff that can break imo.
Oh well if it didn’t work for you then nobody should have it.

Seriously, thousands of people use these daily and get enormous value from them. You are not the market, you only represent one limited use case.

I used to think the same way.

When I started using an iPad Air exclusively with the Magic Keyboard, I noticed that I always wanted to use my finger to operate the display when using the MacBook Air .

If you do it right, using the keyboard and touch is very pleasant!

Hopefully they only charge $129 for the cell modem like they do on iPad.

OLED is 3 years away.
It’s $200 now for cellular + GPS on iPad Pro and $150 on iPad Air. They jacked up the price when the M series processors were added to the iPad Pro models.
