Just keep in mind the CPU gets throttled pretty heavily on Intel Macs when the battery is removed.

I've got an Early 2008 MacBook that had the battery swell up and I'll probably get another off Amazon/eBay. I've noticed that when I'm booted into Windows and look at the task manager it'll show the CPU running at about 1.07 GHz while its normal speed is 2.4 GHz. It's pretty noticeable when loading heavy websites vs full speed with the battery in it.

Duck/gaffer's tape will do that nicely
I had an older Macbook pro to fix, just this week. Battery went bad several years ago, and the owner took some poster board, trimmed to fit. Covered over with silver duck tape. Didn't look too bad...
I have a white MacBook 2007. Removed a swelling battery last year. I took the battery case apart, and removed the battery cells. Put the empty battery case back together, and that empty battery case "works" very well.
I have to remember that it will shut off if I accidentally unplug the magsafe connector :D

Thanks, DeltaMac! Really appreciate the quick response. :) Best regards.

I have had the same problem. The solution to my problem was to replace my track pad with another brand new one. I did this following you tube videos. This worked for me so i recommend giving it a try.

... or you can pull out that Bluetooth trackpad, turn it on and ignore the one in the laptop. But you better have left Bluetooth activated on the laptop before the trackpad stopped working.

Just wanted to say thanks for this post. I picked up a used 2008 Macbook Pro about 6 months ago and the trackpad has been hit/miss (external mouse worked fine) before it finally stopped working altogether. I had noticed that the battery showed the "Service" message a while back, but it wasn't high on my list since we weren't using it much yet. However, after reading this, I removed the battery, powered up, and the trackpad immediately started working. A new battery is on the way so I'm hoping this is the end of my problems!

You folks are great. Have a mid-2009 Mac Book Pro and the trackpad all of a sudden would not accept a click on either side. I had replaced the batters 10 months ago (via Amazon, $30.99) and it was easy to install (even comes with the proper screwdrivers.) It was fine until this trackpad issue happened. I removed the battery and placed the thickness of 5 small post-it notes under the right side of the battery compartment (as the Mac sits facing you), plugged the battery connector back and voila! The trackpad works again. And, since a 12 month warranty was in the product description on Amazon (and still is) I contacted them, they are sending a new battery and label to return the old one at no cost via Kohls. A word of warning: Lithium Ion batteries can be dangerous to be sure to handle carefully and bring to a proper disposal bin if you discard. They can explode under certain conditions!
