Thanks for the tips Pax, I certainly will. I think I'll get the cool master u2 if anything. I can adjust the fan positions to the rear left of the laptop, where the heat is. But I agree having air inflow vents on the underside of the laptop would greatly aid the cooling process. I'll keep you guys posted!

how would having fans or vents on the bottom of a notebook (lets be honest, its a laptop...) be a good idea? So it can suck in my jeans?

good info in this thread. akarmenia, would you say your money was well spent on the cool master u2? i was thinking about getting that same cooler. that one has 2 80mm right? i was also lookin at the NZXT Cryo LX, which has 3.. yes.. 3, 120 mm fans.

but since your test results are saying the fans didnt really help internal temps too much.. im wondering if its worth getting a new cooler at all. im using a vantec lapcool 2 at the moment and the fans are making a bit too much noise.

I know your question wasn't addressed to me, but I'll answer anyway :)
If I were you I would either
(a) not worry about temperatures - Macs do run hot, but IMHO Apple knows what it's doing
or
(b) run SMCfancontrol. It's free, and it's highly effective. Even if in 4-5 years you need a new fan (unlikely IMHO), that's probably a lot cheaper than a cool pad.

Remember some pros use their Macs really hard, there was a guy on here a few months ago who was rendering trees for Avatar (or something!) and he was running a MacBook Pro flat out 24/7 for days and days doing this. IMHO Apple's pro users hammer these computers much harder even than gamers do. If there was a serious problem, they'd find it.

i do use smc :)

problem is, i game in bootcamp win7. the internal fans go ape **** on it. is there some kind of program that works like smc but on win7?
