damn I hope this is true, I'm getting tired of sounding like a broken record but "if the C2D MBP isn't released this time I'm just buying the current model"

I'm not even sure if I believe myself anymore

Some has to say it:

If MacOSXRumors is predicting it, then it's never going to happen.

But a couple months ago weren't they saying around/ after thanksgiving becasue Merom was slightly bigger than Yonah. Where did that go?

EDIT:

To be fair, I think you are thinking of MacOSRumors (MOSR), not MacOSXRumors. The former have a terrible record in regards to rumours (ie they make up everything), while the latter seem to be a bit more reliable. Shame they are named so similarly though.

Maybe I am thinking of MOSR too. If so, I apologize.

I Hope A 1GB Stick In One Slot With The Other Slot Empty Is Standard Config

Anyone think that a gig of RAM might be standard in the MBP?

It's already standard in the iMac, except the education model, and that's a "consumer" machine.

I just went to configure one (makes me happy while I'm waiting) and 1 GIG ram stick was what came with the laptop as the standard option.
You mean in the form of a 1GB stick wiht the other slot empty like they do already?

My memeory is failing. I did know that.

My co-worker just ordered a new MBP

I told her to wait it out until 9.25 at the earliest then buy it.

She has been waiting with me ever since I found out about merom in June. She broke after it wasn't announced this Tuesday.

She's going to feel regret I fear when it's announced in 10 days.

They do that now

I thought I could wait out the move to Intel for some time since my PowerBook is less than a year old.

But it's just not going to happen. The speed jump is simply too great.

I'm waiting at this point for the update. Painfully waiting.

I don't really care about the C2D processor, since most reviews are it is a bland chip without the Santa Rosa chip set. Better, sure enough, but not enough to care about.

But, what I really need is:

1. 160gig drive
2. Much better GPU
3. Apple to fix the quality and heat issues.

Everything else is just a nice to have in my book.

I ordered my MacBook Pro this morning!!!!!!!

anyway I went on the website to see the ship date as soon as I could and here are the details...

Either way if I get it with Merom or not I'm opening that damn box as soon as I see it.

Apple Marketing Needs To Stagger New Product Releases Weekly Even When All Are Ready

If she doesn't open it, she can return it for full refund up to 14 days after she gets it. But she should understand Apple needs to stagger new model releases weekly, even when they are all ready, in order to maximize press coverage. It's Marketing 101.

Another reason for the MBP delay is the supply of Merom processors to Apple is growing at a rate that favors iMacs first then MBP later this month. Apple must build tens of thousands of new MBPs in 3 different configurations before they can announce them as "for sale today".

She can also come to her senses and phone Apple and cancel her order. It is quite irrational to order or buy a MBP right now.

You're breaking my balls Taylor.

This is excellent evidence Apple is not shipping any more Yonah MacBook Pros. Good catch Taylor. That's perfect. What you are going to get will be a 2.33GHz C2D for sure. You might want to upgrade to the Seagate 160BG HD though. :p

before the imac update I thought a new GPU was a given. Now I'm not sure. If this is nothing but a processor change, that's going to be one of the most disappointing updates in years.

I checked the store after I saw this. 17'' BTO ship in 5-7 business days, so that is the 25-27th. 15'' ship in 1-3. All stock models ship in 24 hours.

For as long as I can remember, it has never taken that long for BTO, even durning the back to school rush.

Very nice evidence, thanks for the post.

Just seeing soooooo many people 'painfully' waiting for the Merom MBP, i think we should start a Merom MBP club as soon as we start receiving them!

Btw, how many days does it take for the new MBPs to arrive in the Apple showrooms from the time they are announced?

Does that mean that no updates for the 15"s?

Might mean that they have 15'' boxes that are stil availible to be BTOed where as the supply of the "old" 17'' has run dry.

Just an observation. But, wouldnt it be quicker to just go to an apple store and purchase one rather than wait weeks to get one thru the mail. I know when MBP go to merom, i will be one of the first ones in the store. Maybe im wrong.

Good idea. I'll just hop in my vehicle and drive 600 miles to my nearest Apple Store. Hopefully they won't sell out before I get there.

Ideally, Apple likes to have them in stores, ready to buy as soon as they announce them. But that's rarely the case. Sometimes they get them in right away, sometimes they don't.

A full week delivery time seems like a bit of long wait for someone who is ordering a MBP.

Why can’t they send it second day for an extra two bucks?

Although I agree that Photakinda seems like the logical date for an update, I’m confused who would order a MBP snail mail?

Could you bump that up if you called back and did the overnight gig?

Just curious.

I believe the new macbook pro merom's will be .1-.3 inches thicker, and POSSIBLY incorporate a new blu-ray DVD burner, 160GB HD, ATI X1800 Graphics card, and improved display to 1920X1200 for 17". I believe this to be true based on the information gathered from brenthaven's website, showing the 12/15 pro case that is out of stock is 1/4" thicker in the space needed to hold the macbook. The only reason for this is if they know "something" we don't...such as a thicker machine. Also, they are coming out around the 26th-30th. Maybe? what do you guys think?

Santa Rosa isn't a chipset, it's the name of the platform.

It consists of Merom (eventually Penryn?), Crestline (i965 express chipset) and Kedron (802.11n).

Santa Rosa won't affect performance a great deal.

The faster FSB will make a difference of maybe 3-5%. Maybe a little more in bandwidth-sensitive applications (say, some forms of decompression).

Less than than the difference between Yonah and Merom.

The other big differences are the new graphics core -- which the MBP won't use, the 802.11n - for which the spec hasn't yet been ratified, and is something easily added by changing/adding a wifi card, and the Robson flash caching technology, which is probably the biggest difference.

Note that Crestline is currently specced at consuming ~50% more power than the i945 chipset in Napa. Robson, however, should reduce some of that.

It's quite ironic that after years of Powerbooks getting new G4's with tiny clockspeed boosts, something like Merom is considered "bland"(?)

What u All expect for the new mAcbook pro?

What u All expect for the new mAcbook pro?

mAybe something unexpected??suprise??

is that possible to have blue-ray ROM??hehehe..

My friend (an apple employee) used his discount and ordered for me at the store. I don't think he ever asked me about shipping, I assumed it was standard for every consumer.

I can see an extra week to added on to throw in an extra gig and ship from China, not NINE days! Either way it will be here and in the meantime I'll HOPE FOR THE BEST, and expect yonah.

I can't see Blu-Ray at all.

If it were, I'd figure it'd be an option due to the cost of the drives. Sony offer a laptop in with and without forms and the "with" model costs an extra $1700... but right now I just don't think there's demand.

Based on that, it doesn't seem likely to me.

Then again, I can't see them making the case any thicker than the last-gen PowerBooks, either.

We'll find out soon enough.

taylorc,

Thanks for the update. I thought there was something peculiar there. lol. I’m glad you have friends in the right places!

Either way it sounds like you have task for your machine.

If my Mac quit tomorrow I would be ordering a new one the next day, overnight delivery, by 10 am… but I don’t havefriends in the right places.

thanks for the update

I'd be happy if it was the same enclosure with a Merom CPU and an upgraded GPU - ATI X1800 or nVidia 7700 would be nice.
A longer-life battery would be nice but I can't see it happening due to weight.
If you really want longer battery life, then you should be hoping to keep the X1600. It's regarded as having the best "performance per watt" of recent mobile GPUs.

Personally, I hope (well, pipe dream actually) they'll make MBP build-to-order like Mac Pro. I'd downgrade the CPU to the 2.0GHz version. It wholesales for $130 less than the 2.16, and $340 less than the 2.33. That's way too much to pay for a fractional speed increase.

OTOH, the 2.0 Xeon is $370 less than the 2.66 and Apple only cuts the price $75 for two of them. That's robbery. So I guess MBP BTO probably wouldn't help me even if they did it.
